So is it over for those of us in LA if we haven’t received it? I’ve been hoping otherwise given the initial lack of news but it looks like everybody else is already getting theirs.
For the students that have gotten the white box, just curious, is your portal updated with your scholarship information?
anyone in Ventura County? or Simi or Camarillo?
@HollyGT my portal hasn’t updated yet and I received the white box in the mail today around 3PM (I’m in LA)
@CADREAMIN Thanks for your note! This is our first time going through this. Very exciting, but stressful. Obviously, I’ve been watching this thread closely. We’re in the Bay Area, so wondering if we’ll get something tomorrow. D has the 4.0 UW and 99th%tile scores, but not sure she really has a hook other than being a Scion. So we’ll see.
@WWWard You mentioned “Keep in mind that 4K+ applicants with 4.0 unweighted GPAs and 99th percentile test scores on average each cycle do not even get in.” which is a great reminder. I’m curious if you’ve ever seen stats on how many students with those stats DO get in? Would be interesting to know.
Thank you both so much for all your help and also for your patience and positive encouragement with everyone. Very nice of you to do this!
For those of you in So Cal don’t give up yet. This is my third daughter to get accepted to USC.
In 2012 received acceptance and Dean’s scholarship on day 2.
In 2016 received acceptance in March.
In 2019 received acceptance and Presidential finalist on day 1.
So there is still hope for So Cal applicants
What kinds of hooks do you think/know USC looks for in applicants?
Curiosity question: @collegemom111111 You wrote your daughter is a Scion. What is a Scion?
Thank you, CADREAMIN and WWWard for your calming words of experience and wisdom. Just to double check (since I’m driving myself crazy), it is quite certain that this white box won’t show up in the informed delivery on USPS??
No deans are awarded in January any more. Only March.
@barbpz SCion is a legacy.
@angelcal USC does not enable tracking… so to date, no - they do not show up in informed delivery. But maybe USPS changed their functionality for this year.
@collegemom111111 You can see the stats for all applicants, those admitted and those enrolled (and not just those admitted in Jan) here…
https://about.usc.edu/files/2018/09/USC-Freshman-Profile-2018-2019.pdf
With such, you can see their efforts toward diversity and crafting a well-rounded class… versus simply admitting applicants with the most stellar stats.
@anxiety247 and its not all about hooks. USC is forced to reject about 90% of legacy applicants, for example. More apply annually than the total # being admitted.
To all… this excellent article does a good job of explaining it all…

@barbpz not collegemom, but I believe a SCion is a USC legacy student
If you got accepted please post your stats to this thread!
Thanks @WWWard for the SCion info.
And yes, 975 is fewer Trustee and Presidential admits than past years. Probably has something to do with the fact that the overall number of admission offers is going to be reduced significantly this year. Last year’s freshman class was way too big.
people were saying before that there is a label created in USPS from inglewood. Can someone check on this to see if it means that you are getting a package or not.
Anyone know when southern US students will get their package e.g. Texas?
Thanks. @CADREAMIN It’s good to be back.
@s0meUSCkid95 I actually looked you up and didn’t realize your second character was a zero rather than an O! So I thought your username was a goner.
Socal applicants will still be receiving boxes tomorrow, San Diego area included as they usually get missed day 1. Norcal should see theirs tomorrow as well. Major metros across the country will see them - it really depends on how far you are from major cities/postal hubs. Even east coast metros will start receiving tomorrow - that’s you New York and New Jersey, also Atlanta. Also a lot of FLA report day 2, unless of course you are @WWWard (whose package was way delayed…ugh). Please note east coasters, we have seen a neighborhood in NYC get them, and one a few blocks away take another day. Most of the rest (except for outliers) will receive Saturday, but there are always stragglers, so count on the portal update. They were apparently sent later in the day yesterday so it appears less socal than usual got them today, but will see them tomorrow.
Assume portal will update Friday night after midnight/early Saturday morning.
I assume the push out of Deans to March is to give more time to better gauge their yield on the biggies, then determine exactly how many to give out…I believe I read they had bigger class than intended last year, suppose they will adjust this year.
