USC Dec 1st Scholarship Deadline Question

For the Dec 1st Deadline, is EVERYTHING due by that date? By everything I mean... official SAT test scores, transcripts, etc. If yes, what is EVERYTHING we need to send by that date? I'm so confused. Thanks!

For the Dec 1st Deadline, is EVERYTHING due by that date?
YES

your COMPLETED application, SAT scores, teacher recommendations, GC recommendation and HS transcript.

The FAX machine is your friend.

thanks! what if i’m taking the SAT in dec? do i just send my past scores and send in my dec one later? also, do we need to fax unofficial SAT scores? because that is what i heard

do i just send my past scores and send in my dec one later?
YES
do we need to fax unofficial SAT scores?

NO, they need to be sent DIRECTLY. Go online to Collegeboard and order scores to be sent to USC. Yu can make a copy of the webpage page showing the scores that have been sent and FAX that to USC as backup confirmation that scores are coming. But it will not be considered an Official report.

This is what they need by December 1st:

Application
• Common Application Supplement
• Common Application
• School Report (Transcript + Counselor Recommendation)
• 2 Letters of Recommendation

They said that they will be willing to take your December Test Scores as well! So you will be fine.

I would submit all my Financial Aid Stuff by this date too, just to get it off your back lol.
but I will just give you the general dates that they have:

Financial Aid Requirements
• CSS/Profile Application (Feb. 2, 2012)
• FAFSA (Feb. 2, 2012)
• Tax Returns (March 2, 2012)
o See My Financial Aid and Documents for instructions
• 2012-2013 NonFiling Tax Statement form

I originally typed up http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/819609-2010-applicants-answer-dec-1st-deadline-everything.html?highlight=is+december+1st+deadline+for+everything</a> in November 2009, and it applies to this year’s applicants as well. Read the first post for as clear an explanation I could muster to support that if you want to be considered for a scholarship, you need to get your materials in by December 1st.

*as mentioned in other posts, December test scores will be considered IF you choose USC as an automatic score recipient AND fax in your unofficial scores as soon as you receive them.

Good luck.

**I agree with nellyata123 that getting your financial aid applications in early is a good idea, but the 2012-2013 FAFSA cannot be submitted until 1-1-2012.

alemom: In your guide, you stated the following: “Scholarship acceptances will begin to be mailed by about January 20th.”

That is well before the admission office’s published date of April 1, which is the only date I’ve seen on the university website. Is it the case then that most or all merit scholarship recipients are notified of an admission decision 2 months ahead of time?

Yes, in the past the Trustee and Presidential scholarship candidates were notified of their admission in late January/early February, and scholarship interview invitations followed a few days later. Scholarship interviews are typically held the last week of February through the first week of March with notifications of scholarship awards by late March, so early notification is necessary to accommodate that timetable.

It remains to be seen if Mork scholars will be placed on the same timetable, and if the move to the Common Application impacts the timetable (there will be a large increase in the number of applications, and it may or may not take USC longer to make the scholarship invitation decisions).

Many other scholarships will be awarded with the bulk of admissions in late March, but the two “big” scholarships - the Trustee and Presidential (and now possibly the Mork) - are notified early.

I dug up acceptances threads from 2008-2011 for Snowdog (and it is fun to see the posts of all the applicants from those years - especially the ones who still are posting  ).

In 2011, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1074764-usc-fall-2011-stats-only-decisions.html</a> students started posting acceptances on January 25th.

In 2010, they started rolling in on January 27th http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/852880-stats-only-usc-decisions-2010-a.html?highlight=stats+usc+decisions</a> .

2009 acceptances first posted on January 24th http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/642272-stats-only-usc-decisons-2009-a.html?highlight=stats+usc+decisions</a> .

And in 2008, it was January 28th http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/454785-stats-only-usc-official-decisions-fall-2008-a.html?highlight=stats</a> .

^Agreed!!! Definitely NOT a lame mom!

Awwww!  :)

I have a question about sending in school transcripts. So will the counselor know to send your transcripts along with the recommendation. Or do we request it separately?

@angehere: That is part of the request, so they should be informed to include the transcripts. You can check the status of it on the common app website. I would always send a follow up email if you see that they haven’t submitted it and it’s getting closer to the deadline.

Son just submitted Common App materials. Does USC send any kind of confirmation email or email with a link to an electronic system where one can monitor the status of the application materials, i.e. showing what if anything is missing? If so, when should we expect to see it? Thanks.
