Is anyone else not able to request new/north for their dorm on the housing portal? I just went back in to change update my application, but I don’t see an option for new/north anymore
@collegecurious15 I applied this morning and I was able to request new/north
New/North is confusing because it’s actually 4 buildings. New is Elizabeth Von Kleinsmid (EVK) and College Halls. North is Harris and University Halls. EVK and Harris have the rooms with sinks, College and University are just regular doubles.
Also, if you are just moving a preference up or down on your list, you will first need to change it to something else. The system won’t let you choose the same preference for more than one step. So for instance, if you were changing College Hall from your first preference to second preference, you should start by changing your first preference to something random.
@trojanchick99 ohh ok. Thanks for clearing it up. I was looking for a building called New/North on the list instead of EVK and Harris.
My daughter, now a sophomore at USC, toured them all and really wanted to live in Webb as a freshman for many reasons… first - its an apartment and simply has more space - with living room and kitchen, private bath, and A/C throughout the apartment. My key advice though is to do what she did… locate a roommate and then make sure that your preferences/requests match exactly… #1 thru 4 or 5, however many there are. By doing this, you make the job of USC Housing easier and they are more like to pair you two together and grant you one of your top choices. She found her roommate here on CC. My daughter is now at Century as a sophomore and has already locked in Century again for her junior year. Everyone has different needs or wants. In her case, it was A/C throughout (which is rare at USC) and having an actual apartment with lots of space + a kitchen + private bath. I urged her to pursue such because my dorm rm experience in college was very annoying. Small dorm rooms with no living space + no kitchen + community bath gets old very quickly & does not make up for the social aspects of dorms overall. You can always live comfortably and party elsewhere Good luck…
