USC Faculty Receive Major Awards

<p>Professor Brighde Mullins was honored in NYC as a 2010 U.S. Artist's Fellow in Literature. The honor included a $50,000 grant. Perviously Professor Mullins received the Pinter Review Gold Medal for "Fire Eater".</p>

<p>Annenberg Professor Diane Winston has received a $300,000 Ford Foundation Grant to promote excellence in journalism.</p>

<p>Professsor Annie Wong-Beringer was named a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America.</p>

<p>Dr. Kornelia Kulig has been elected a Catherine Worthington Fellow-the highest honor bestowed by the American Physical Therapy Association.</p>

<p>Professor Manuel Castellas will receive the 2011 Erasmus Medal. This is given to ONE individual in recognition of personal and significant contributions to European science and
scholarship.</p>

<p>Dr. Mara Mather was awarded the American Psychologial Association Distinguished Scientific Award.</p>

<p>Drs. Estelas Bensimon, Bill Tierney and Dominic Brewer were named Fellows of the American Educational Research Association (AERA).</p>

<p>Dr. K. Sullivan has received the 2010 Eleanor Carlin Award for Excellence in Academic Teaching.</p>

<p>Professor Bart Kosko was elected to the College of Fellows of the International Neural Network Society.</p>

<p>Robin Kelly of USC College received the Music in American Culture Award and ASCAP D. Taylor Award.</p>

<p>Richard Leahy was awarded the Edward Hoffman Award for Medical Scientific Imaging.</p>

<p>Alan Wilner was awarded the Paul Forman English Excellence Award and was also elected to the International Fellowship of the Royal Academy of England (UK).</p>

<p>Paul Ethington is serving a 3 year term on the Board of Editors of the American Historical Review.</p>

<p>Dr. Viet Nguyen has received an American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship and was also a Luce Foundation Fellow.</p>

<p>Percival Everett also received the John Dos Passos Prize for Literature.</p>

<p>Patric Muggli received the 2011 IEEE PLAST Award for outstanding contributions to the development of particle accelerator science. The honor included a $3000. award.</p>

<p>Asad Madni and Humayun Requicha were both elected to the National Academy of Engineering.</p>

<p>Professor Susan Forsburg received the 2011 Alice Evans Award from the American Society of Microbiology.</p>

<p>Professor Mark Thompson of USC College has been ranked #12 on the Thomson Reuters’ Science Watch List as one of the world’s most influential chemists.</p>

<p>President Obama announced USC Professor Jon Sornet will be named to the National Cancer Advisory Board.</p>

<p>Thornton Jazz Studies Professor Vince Mendoza recently received a Grammy Award and was nominated for another.</p>

<p>Father James Heft, USC Professor of Religion, has received the Theodore Hesburgh Award for Leadership Excellence.</p>

<p>Jon-Michael Scheiber of the Thornton School of Music is president-elect of the American Choral Director’s Association.</p>
