lreds4life: I did. Go to the online application page and say that you're a new visitor. It'll ask you to make a new ID and pass, etc.

So is there a foreign language requirement for film studies?

So is there a foreign language requirement for film studies?

@tresfleur: Hey, thanks a lot.

collegelurker: By "red flags" I mean anything from low grades (C's or D's), to incomplete requirements, to a disciplinary record or low/non-existent EC's, "bad" essays (bad grammar, incoherent sentences, etc.) anything like that would qualify as a red flag...

I didn't have to take the TOEFL, because as I said I've been here for about 5-6 years. I attended school from 8th - 12th grade in the U.S., so I wasn't requried to take it. I think you're required to take it only if you're an international student coming from a foreign country or if you haven't been in the U.S. for a long time, so they know you're fully pro efficient in English..

I agree with Costs being scary, but they have a top-notch financial aid program as well though, so that's mainly what's encouraging me and keeping my hopes alive... Hopefully those hopes won't be squished when I get those papers lol.

Woman.of.troy: so, do you have the link where it says a Cal Grant is worth $9.5k at USC ?, thanks.... For what term are you applying by the way ?

I am applying for fall 2008. I'll look for the link the $9.5k was the entering class of 2005's average cal grant award, which was the stat I looked at when i was applying as a freshman. I haven't seen this year's.

Apparently, it's a bit lower.
:/

so, i have one red flag...
is that going to be extremely bad?
by the way, i heard that the college name matters. Is SMC good or bad?
And has anyone started on personal statement? I just started writing today, and realized that 1000 words is approx 4pages double spaced...
i dont really have that much to say about my life.
how about you guys? got 4pgs worth of life experience related to your major?

Santa Monica College is actually REALLY prestigious. As well as the #2 source for community college transfer to USC. Pasadena City is the #1. Mine, it's not even on the top ten list, lol.

woman- where did u get all those info.s? what about elcamino college?

Handbook or Transfer Guide. I'll post the top colleges right now.

wreckedtune-But it's not like coming from SMC will get a person with a 3.0 admitted. It's just a school name that USC recognizes has good students, I suposse.

Ok from Transferring to USC... in no particular order in --this-- magazine

TOP TRANSFER STUDENT SOURCES
El Camino College
Glendale Community College
Mount San Antonio College
Orange Coast College
Pasadena City College
Saddleback Community College
Santa Monica College

I remember the rep telling me pasadena was #1, smc #2 etc., but these are in print from the school so I'd just abide by these.

so i guess my current school El Camino is pretty gud then lol!

I don't know if/how much 1 red flag will hurt you in the admissions process. I do know that 0 won't hurt you at all though...

I thought the Cal Grant was $8k per year, not $9,500, but thanks for the link anyways.... I'd be interesting to see if USC would factor that Cal grant when determining how much $$ to give you or if they wouldn't at all... Meaning if they want/can to give you $16k in grants but they see you have a Cal Grant for $8k, do they only give you $8k in grants themselves ? or would they give you the full $16k on top of the $8k Cal grant... ? that could make a huuuge difference.

And for those of you thinking the school where you come from makes a huuge difference, think again... I got accepted transferring from a CC in the heart of the south (mississippi)... The classes that you take and your performance is much more important than the name of the school, imo.

yes, the academic record itself is. bc honestly, i doubt any community college can be called 'prestigious', really.

rijeos- if after receiving cal grant aid, you still needed the $16k I'm pretty sure USC would give it to you, because they only send you their financial aid AFTER having been informed of your cal grant award amount. If you go to the link I gave you, they advise you to apply to federal and state aid first and list USC as a possible school, bc they won't give any financial aid to people who haven't already tried to get it from the gov.

anyone going to transfer day on friday?

nop... why is it important?

hey guys, i transferred into usc this year and i just wanted to wish all you good luck. i remember i would be on this forum pretty much every day waiting for that dreaded decision to finally come. this forum definately helped me get by. well, good luck once again and keep your heads up!

fight on!

hmm what sort of gpa did you have to get in? haha abit of insight into the process would be great too :)

torrance- not really. i just heard you learn more about the admissions process..

hi im new have only 6 transferable units not hoping to transfer to usc unil fall of 09 but i was wondering does usc allow tranferable online courses i was thing about taking a music class online for winter intersession at OCC

jimmy242- while techinically, online courses are not transferrable, usc will look at each online class on a case by case basis. the thing is most ccc's don't list online classes as "online", so you may be able to transfer the class without usc ever knowing that you took an online class
