It might depend on the program you are applying to? Like, if the business school gets the most transfer applicants, then the number of accepted students goes down?
And the departments with the fewest applicants can accept a higher number? I'm no mathematician so I could be wrong.

So I've got this idea that if they are accepting less freshman, are they accepting more transfers? It would seem that this would be true

i think the accepting less freshman comes from the yield rate..like a larger percentage of the acceptees decided to commit to USC.. if anything that would lower our chances :(

You guys know the info sheet we got a while back, asking us to change anything that needed to be changed? Well, I just decided to change my intended major and second choice major (before, I marked undecided). Can I still send it in, does anyone know? And should I mail it or fax it to get it their faster? If fax, then how, since theirs no cover sheet or anything? I think it'd be a lot better to have something down for intended major rather than marking undecided, so I really want to get this in in time for it to be considered when they're reviewing my app. Anyone know what the best thing to do would be?

Uh ................. do you guys think this means anything?

As you know, many admission professionals across the University are involved in the review of each and every application. I am pleased to report that the USC Viterbi School has completed our initial review of your application, and we are recommending you for admission as a transfer student for Fall 2008. The USC Office of Admission is still reviewing transfer applications, so your admission decision has not yet been finalized. Once the Office of Admission completes their review of your application, they will issue a formal admission decision. Your admission status will not become finalized until you receive an offer of admission from USC in the mail.

Over the next few weeks, USC will be working on finalizing your admission decision. On occasion, we may need additional information from you or official documentation of your academic history. Please respond promptly to any requests you receive from USC. If you have any questions about these requests, please contact the USC Viterbi School directly at (800) 526-3347 or via email at viterbi.admission@usc.edu.

Admission to the USC Viterbi School becomes more competitive each year, and this year was no exception. You should be very proud of your accomplishments. If you have any questions about this email or your admission status, please feel free to contact me directly. I have included my personal contact information below. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I'm literally kind of shaking right now. But um ....... I'm not sure if it means anything really?

What a tease! How can they do that to you???!!!!!!!!!!

oh MAAAAAAAAAAAN i think i would be throwing my computer across the room if i got that email because it sounds like viterbi wants you but USC still has to admit you. what is that?!

secretly jealous someone got some word from USC...

^^^ Tell me about it, what the heck is that?!?! Talk about playing with people's emotions!!! @_@

Oh well ......... it's okay I have calculus 3 to worry about tonight, should take my mind off of this issue.

So if you submit one application online, does the admission office then send a copy to the school you are applying to?

redtapepatrol-i have a paper due at 11:30 and it still hasn't taken my mind off. i hate the book i'm writing about anyway and i'm almost done, but i just can't be bothered with this! transferring is way more important, haha.

wow congrats red tape!..haha i wonder if CLAS would send something like that..although that is probably wishful thinking. waiting sucks

ksbr27: lol I feel your pain. Fortunately I got English out of the way during the first year and a whole bunch of humanities/social sciences as well. I had to write quite a lot of papers on books I wasn't entirely interested in either, and it certainly wasn't much fun. But now that I'm literally buried in math and physics, I actually miss having to read and write a lot. Such is the way with human nature I suppose - the grass is always greener on the other side. :p

manutd4eva: I'm fairly certain it's a Viterbi thing as all applicants were STRONGLY recommended to complete the supplemental application, and I think it was stated somewhere on the Viterbi site that if you do so following all the deadlines correctly, you'll receive an admission status notice before June 1st, which I suppose is what I've gotten here. I'm not 100% certain though.

hey guys I got the same email from Viterbi ... for a split second I thought I got in ... but I guess I'm still in this waiting game with the rest of you. Did the rest of you engineering applicants also get this same email??? I kind of hope they didn't just send this email to everyone because then I wouldn't feel that special.

BTW to manutd4eva, and others who were wondering, the reason Viterbi sent out this email is because they promised to inform applicants of their status via email by April 1st if they filled out the supplemental application. So if you didn't apply to engineering I wouldn't expect an email.

i got the email and i probably have the worst stats up on this website.

redtape-oh yes, i got done with all my english reqs my first year, but since this was my last semester at SMC i decided to take some electives...and i like this class but i just HATE this book we're reading. thank god this is the last part and then i can say goodbye to toni morrison for, hopefully, forever!

^^ Teasers suck. 'Nuff said.

Best of luck to the both of us!

wait a minute that email is different than mine. it doesnt talk about reccomending or anything like that so i think ur in for sure

RedTapePatrol - How exciting for you, congrats! It does sound like a thumbs up from Viterbi. I would be shaking with excitement too. I wish Annenberg did this.

redtapepatrol- thats definately good news...think...unlike the rest of us whose admission is basically a crapshoot....yours is at least probable now

Red Tape- Awwweeesomme!
