USC Film Critical Studies chances

I am currently a sophomore at Ball State University studying telecommunications, and I want to transfer to USC my junior year. Specifically, the film critical studies major. My current GPA is a 3.533, and I have held a job for the last 4 years working 40 hours a week during summer and vacations. I’m an Illinois resident. What are my chances at getting into USC? What about the film school?

I know that even though you are out-of-state, you have an equal chance of obtaining a transfer into USC as a in-state application. Pertaining to the Cinema-Television School at USC, though, it is a complete toss-up. It is very competitive at the Cinema-Telvision School which is one of the many reasons it is #1 in the nation. Me thinks that you should just be totally honest about yourself and clearly state why you feel you belong there. Creativity is also a plus and it wouldn't hurt to have some good reccomendations also.

Good luck.

NYU is number one, bia.

USC Film School is #1

Haha...nice.

You would probably get in. If you're not sure if you can, then just apply undeclared and change your major at orientation. But you've got good grades and good EC's so I don't see why you wouldn't get in.

Changing majors wouldn't work if the transfer process is the same as for entering first year students. You apply both to the film school and USC. You have to be admitted to the latter to be admitted to the former, but you can get into USC without being admitted to CTV. You can't simply declare yourself a film major.

And, btw, since USC is a private school not being in-state doesn't hurt, in fact it helps. USC likes out of staters, and being from Illinois will be a plus although I doubt if it will mean anything in the CTV admissions process.
