<p>Stephen Gruber, M.D, Ph. D., M. P. H. has been named the new director of the Norris Center effective December 1, 2011. Doctor Gruber is a medical oncologist, cancer geneticist and epdemiologist. His interests include the genetic epidemiology of cancer, with emphasis on colorectal cancer.</p>
<p>He received his bachelor's degree from the Univ. of Pennsylvania, his M.P.H. and Ph.D. from Yale University. He later completed fellowships at the Univ. of Michigan.</p>
<p>Dr. Gruber has been active in professional organizations and served on editorial boards for professional journals. He has served on the Registries Advisory Panel for the National Cancer Institute and chaired the Cancer Genetics Education American Society of Clinical Oncology. Two patents on a mutation associated with familial colorectal cancer are held by him.</p>
<p>He comes to SC from the University of Michigan's Comprehensive Cancer Center. He was Director of the Cancer Genetics Clinic and held the H. Marvin Pollard Chair of Medicine. He also had a clinical practice.</p>
<p>At SC Dr. Gruber will direct the Norris Center and hold the H. Leslie Hoffman Chair in Cancer Research.</p>
