Decisions only after visiting all 3. By Next weekend visits will be done. Who knows when he will make his decision. Basically now all 3 are financially viable, some easier than others. So I basically told him to use whatever criteria he wants. He and I like different things about all 3schools.
USC positives: game design strength, negative : location/perceived safety concerns
UCLA positive: more international and national name recognition, perceived difficulty of getting in.
UCSD positive: strength of CompSci dept, Regents benefits, negative: to close to home

For all I care at this point he can choose it based on which has the cutest girls.

That did not quite come out right.
I meant that all 3 choices are good and have their positives.
So therefore he can easily make a choice at this point based on any insignificant thing, and it will still be a good choice.

Just an update, I checked my admissions status link on the USConnect thing on the April 4 randomly, and my scholarship notification letter was there! Sweeeeet thank goodness cuz I committed to USC before I even got the scholarship notification lawlz

Straight from the horse’s mouth, uh the Fin Aid Office.
Called to ask them to clarify the $4000 “National Merit College Sponsored Scholarship” vs. the $2500 one time Scholarship, because the renewable $1000/yr one showed up on my S’s account (Gift Aid tab) today. Was read to this note, not word for word but close,
This is to be removed from the account if the student is awarded the $2500 NMSC scholarship. This is per NMSC policy and is not negotiable.

There you have it, that’s it. So my understanding is, once USC get the nmsc finalist names from nmsc, they put the $4000 one on your account, pending final notification from nmsc. Whichever one nmsc offers to the student will be final and not switchable. However, if you are a finalist but not named a scholar in the end, you’ll probably end up with the higher award. Doesn’t seem too fair.

^ Maybe not necessary “fair” but the $2,500 can be used at ANY school and the 1K (renewable for 4 years) is USC specific.
