Alright...given the choice between USC or a full ride scholarship at Ithaca, which would you choose.

The full ride scholarship covers everything: tuition, room and board, books, and fees, even stipends! Also, it comes with extra perks (fully-paid job shadowing trips to NYC, grants for education/service projects, internships every year, ect)...and only 19 people are selected for the award.

Any thoughts? What would you choose if USC had been your number one???

I am going for Journalism and Film actually (both schools have good programs)...at Ithaca they have a television station in which they air to the entire city 24/7 and they have student productions/sitcoms/award-winning broadcast news programs...Ithaca's student paper has also won best paper in New York state numerous years in a row...and it's easy to get involved as a freshman...I don't know how easy it is to be that involved at USC...any other thoughts?

Forget about the name of the school and its prestige entirely and keep in mind these things:

1) Which location is more appealing? Cold, snowy Ithaca or warm, sunny LA?
2) Are there any family connections to either school, or do you have any family that you want/don't want to be near?
3) If you go to USC, what will your financial status be? Meaning, how will you pay for tuition and if it's by loans, how are you going to repay them after graduation?
4) What characteristics are you looking for in your choice college? Do you want lots of small classes, or don't mind perhaps never meeting your professor in person?

Well, there are more questions than the ones I've suggested to ask yourself.
If all else fails, then just flip a damn coin!

I was going to be part of the honors program at SDSU, with everything paid except for housing, plus I'd get priority registration, and some other things. I turned it down for USC, though. I did it both for academic reasons (aka I felt that I worked too hard in high school to just go to SDSU), and also because I loved all that USC had to offer.

Journalism and Film are both AMAZING majors here. I'm currently in the process of adding a Journalism minor, and I'm pretty psyched to have the Annenberg name on my diploma and resume. I think you can't go wrong coming to USC and having those majors.

USC also has a television station (and as the ads always say on it, "voted the #1 college television station in the country"). It only airs in the local vicinity, but it is still amazing. It has everything from game shows to discussions to news to interviews (where there is everyone from George Lucas to Anderson Cooper from CNN to Hanson). I love the station with a passion.

There is also the campus newspaper, the liberal newspaper, an unofficial student life magazine, the yearbook, etc.

Hey USChicka, glad to know you like Trojan Vision! I'm a producer for "Mind Games," you wouldn't happen to be interested in being on the show...would you?

USCDude - If I wasn't an Annenberg major (I was accepted into Viterbi), is it still possible to get involved with the TV station?
(producing, directing, writing, on-air, etc.)

Becky - Anyone can get involved with the TV station. I'm not even an Annenberg major...I'm a Cinema-TV major. Trojan Vision is not part of any classes...it is totally student run!

uschicka - If you want to be on "Mind Games" next semester (or any of your friends)...send me a message.

This invitiation goes out to everyone else! C'mon now, who wouldn't want to be a part of the coolest show on Trojan Vision?!

USCDude, I was wondering the same thing, too, if non Annenberg majors were able to get involved with the tv station and radio station. Probably just need some training, and do you get that training from other students? Is there a time at the beginning of the semester to sign up to help out?

There is an open house at the beginning of each semester at the Zemeckis Center (literally across from the Shrine Auditorium where they do the Emmys, Grammys, and Screen Actor's Guild Awards), where the Trojan Vision studio is located. You get a chance to learn more about the various shows they have and sign up for the ones that interest you. Most people join nightly crew, in which you get trained by students to do various positions, such as cameraman, floor director, etc., and do a taping of CU@USC (the show where people like George Lucas and Seth McFarlane of Family Guy get interviewed) and Platforum. For nightly crew, they ask you which days you would be available to help out...they usually have crew call from 5 PM - 8 PM everyday.

Anyway, if anyone wants to be crew for "Mind Games" next semester, send me a message and I'll hook you up!

I'll be a freshman next year but it does sound fun. Since I've obviously never seen Trojan Vision, would you mind explaining what "mind games" is?

"Mind Games" is a relationship based game (couples, roommates, friends, frat/sorority members, etc.) and partners compete against other pairs to see who knows each other the best. It's the newest show on Trojan Vision!
