yikes! i can't decide between NYU or USC (University of Southern California) for journalism. I was accepted into the Annenberg school of communications at USC, which is extremely difficult, but i haven't heard much about NYU's journalism programs. can anyone give me any advice or input on which to choose? I was also accepted into Boston University and Emory University, But NYU and USC are currently my top choices.

My two choices right now are NYU and USC too. I got the dean's scholarship to USC (quarter off tuition) and nothing from Stern, but i'm probably gonna stick with NYU cause of NYC and cause of Finance at Stern.

I'd say go with NYU cause of its location.. but socal is really nice too.

where are you from, and what do you plan on majoring in? i'd say that for me, a major major plus at usc is the school spirit, unity, and the football team. which makes it so hard to decide, because i LOVE new york city! i'm just concerned about the available programs, i know so little about what they offer for journalism. considering the city though, i would assume that there would be endless opportunities.

I've been mulling over this choice too (for film)

I am positive I'm going to nyu though. I just like the program better, and I'm really excited about living in NYC.
Remember at USC, you need a car or public transport to get to LA. Thats a huge downer for me.
However, there are positives and negatives to both.

Well, if you are having decision problems, just see which one would cost you less and how much fin aid schools are giving you...

i'd definitely go with nyu...

do you like nyc or LA better?

better question, do you want to have a career in LA or in NYC?

i'm majoring in finance, almost sure. And i hate accounting, which is what i applied for at USC bsuiness school. i think USC school only has accounting and management for undergrads. or thats what its good at.

USC is very good with their alumni association and connections, so you'll be pretty covered in terms of job.

NYU also seems to be the case, although i dont know how good they are compared to USC in this field.

However, my friend also got accepted to both USC (annenberg) and NYU (journalism) and she has told me that had spoken to a rep of USC, and he said that they (usc) loses a lot of their students to NYU's Journalism program. So...that might say something.

academics aside, socal has awesome weather, although a basically nonexistent, unreliable public transportation system. buses are always late. so...if you plan to go out to west hollywood, or just carouse about LA...it be very convenient to have a car

Go To Nyu!

GO TO NYU if u are majoring in business go to NYC it has everything, thats y i wanted to go there in the first place cause its so full of ppl and besides NYC> LA

NYC > LA ALL THE WAY.

Trust me, because I've live in LA, and I've stayed in NYC for two months

the transportation thing really does get me. i was just in chicago for an admitted usc students reception, and the alumni connections really impressed me. i love new york city, i'm just worried that if i go to nyu, i will be overshadowed by the majority of those who are in tisch, because that is what nyu is known for. and i still know so little about their journalism program.

Both schools are very similar. It depends on whether you want live in the east or west coast. Ofcourse if you got into Stern, you should definately go to NYU.

I am actually a west coaster, from seattle, who is having the same problem . . . i got into stern and marshall(sc business) and i have tennatively decided on stern because i want to get off of the west coast. for business especially NYC has this amazing stimulating energy . . . its really hard to explain. And there is so much to do in NYC. but all of you i feel your pain . . . i love socal. also an idea is that if you are in I banking and are in a bulge bracket firm you can always transfer to LA after a year or so

it’s nice to see so many people having the same preblem but this decision is getting harder by the hour. USC or NYU for journalism??? program rank or location? i really want to go to NYU but SoCal is where the family is and their program’s apparently awesome. HELP!

I just hate how NYU sells “New york city is your campus” bull! So many people are hypnotize by that. New York City is not all that.

I feel location (as in where they school is not the stlye of the campus) should not be a deciding factor.

PS: I was born and raise in NYC and going to NYU this. Tisch was the only school that will make stay in NYC

Location should definately be a deciding factor. You don’t want to live 4 years in a city you hate.
