So I've been accepted to these two schools and I'm deciding right now between them...any suggestions?

I like USC because of the strong alumni network and strong community

NYU because it's in NY! loads of internships :)

but I'm from LA and spent the last 18 years of my life there so maybe NY would be a better experience?

but USC is ranked higher!

Depends, do you want a campus or not? NYU has no campus… I’m in the opposite boat, came to LA because I’ve been in NY my whole life haha

There are plenty of internships available in LA, too! Don’t count that out.

To be successful at NYU demands having a certain kind of personality; one has to be extremely self-motivated and independent. The university lacks a centralized “campus,” so all your classes will be spread throughout certain sections of the city; this may or may not require walking far/taking the subway to class every morning. Similarly, because NYU lacks a campus, many students find it hard to make friends and student organizations/clubs/etc aren’t as prevalent as they are at other colleges.

NYC is just a tough city to survive in in general, as well, for those who weren’t born there. You should also consider weather a factor, since you’re from California. My parents took me to see all my east coast schools in the dead of winter – really proved to me that I am NOT made for cold, snow and windchill!

You should really visit both campuses and consider what kind of college experience you want. NYU and USC both offer vastly different lifestyles.
