DD rejected
GPA 3.97/4.8, ACT 35, SAT 1560, NMF (MD) and great ECs. Combination of being Asian and NMF is probably the reason for rejection.
Sorry, @SATHater Unfortunately, those demographic factors do play a clear role these days. Good luck…
Apparently SCA has a dedicated email about internal transfers into SCA. My daughter sent them her questions. Of course, we are mainly just curious now about the track records and/or success of others who have had to pursue this similar path before…
Congrats and good luck to all the admits! My daughter was denied, but she will end up where she is meant to go…maybe across town at LMU or at Chapman-Dodge, UT Austin…or perhaps on the other coast at NYU. She will have a busy month making her final decision. Cheers!
Good luck to her. She certainly has some great options. I am sure that she will ultimately make the decision that proves best for her…
Today after being rejected I emailed the professor who interviewed me with a question I had for him after our interview. I didn’t do it because I am mad just because I was curious. His response sort of implied I had been accepted to SCA and just not to USC itself, which if it is true is frustrating. Still, I must move on.
Good luck to all future applicants, whether you end up at SCA or somewhere else you’ll all do great.
Sorry to hear about your rejection, @cathjr Best of luck… I am sure you will find an excellent home for your talents…
Is it too late to apply? I just took my ACT’s and completed my college resume, but I heard that decisions have already came out. However, I am sure they will accept a late applicant with a 36 on the ACT’s and a 4.0 GPA. I have even directed three award winning films and some of my other films are in festivals around the country. Please let me know as soon as possible if it’s to late to apply because my mom will beat me to a pulp because she thought I applied four months ago. Thanks sm.
@WWWard Thank you and best of luck to your daughter as well!
@iloveusc1234 hmm i cant tell if youre kidding but yes it is too late to apply
@iloveusc1234 Yes, it is too late to apply. They have made, finalized, and released their decisions. They will not just accept you because you’re smart. In my opinion, that’s a really cocky assumption. USC rejects thousands of high stat kids every year. There is no special in because you can take tests well. Cool you have directed films but it is too late. Even then, USC will go for potential over accomplishment so if they only saw accomplishment in you they still might not have gone for you. I don’t mean to be awful but you’re making a lot of presumptions that you’re better than the 56,000 applicants who applied on time. Better luck in the future. Be proactive. Maybe apply as a transfer.
@cathjr You’re welcome. And thanks!

@CathJR That sucks, you cleared the more difficult SCA hurdle only to have USC shut you out. I was always under the impression that SCA fights USC for the students they want, and sometimes they admit as low as 3.4 GPA and 26 ACT. If your interviewer will back you up, maybe you should appeal? Good luck!
@uciparent Well, it wasn’t a definite statement that I had. He sort of just implied it.
“I am so sorry to hear you were not admitted. I am only one of many on the SCA committee and all SCA admissions eventually go through the University’s admissions. Many parts to the process”
I mean that definitely is not a sure thing that I did pass through SCA, it just sounds like I might’ve. Who knows. I’ll probably always wonder.
Maybe I did but SCA didn’t want me enough. Maybe I didn’t. Maybe SCA doesn’t fight. I have a gpa over that and a decent SAT. I don’t know.
I might consider appealing, but I would never press my interviewer to back me. I thought it was nice enough for him to even reply. If I do I’ll update here though. We’ll see.
I did not have a phone interview but I went to USC and had an in person interview.
@tvlover9 Congratulations!!! Were you contacted for the in person interview or did you initiate it yourself. I know someone who after hearing of others getting interview requests, initiated it herself by going to USC and talking to them. She was admitted to SCA.
I signed up for an interview online.
My son was admitted to SCA…(33 ACT 4.2 gpa) He has good EC in music, film, art, sports… He wasn’t expecting the acceptance and is thrilled. Also in UC Berkeley, Emory, NYU, Syracuse. Some with big scholarship offers. I’m not in the arts and feel like Berkeley is so hard to get in that he should at least consider it. Would save $ over SC as well. He really thinks USC is the best place and so I will be supportive.
If you were admitted to SCA and have committed to USC, you can also now register for the SCA Community and start getting emails about anything and everything SCA. You can also start exploring things only accessible to SCA majors/minors.
The account registration link is in the bottom left of this webpage…
