USC school of engineering

Hi. I have this situation and still have to wait for one more month, but it's killing me. So I thought someone might be able to answer my question. I'm currently a student at a community college and my overall GPA is 3.95. I used to have another major but after a year or so decided to change my major to chemical engineering. So, I ended up having about 120 units! Now, my concern is whether or not this huge number of units becomes an issue against my chances to get accepted by USC. This is one of my counselors told me. She says USC doesn't like to accept students with more than 90 units. Is anyone here who had a situation like me, yet got accepted by USC?

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1213/TransferringToUSC_2012.pdf</a> says that you will get at most 64 semester units of credit from transferable course work (128 semester units are needed to graduate).

It does not seem to have anything about a limit on the number of units you may have taken at previous college(s). You may want to ask USC’s admission office if there is any issue with having 120 or so units already.

Note that if your community college is on the quarter system, 120 quarter units is equivalent to 80 semester units.

I have exactly the same situation as you and changed majors as well and now i have over 90 units because of science courses. Most likely, your counselor does not speak for USC admissions and is not part of the university so she cannot speak on behalf of USC. USC doesn’t just look at the number of units but rather the classes you’ve taken so I’m not sure why your counselor would speak such a thing. They care more about your grade transitions and courses you’ve taken, what you’ve done, leadership skills and a person as a whole.

@ucbalumnus: Thank you very much. i feel a lot better now.
@CINLEI: yeah man… I don’t know either. I’m just waiting to see what happen. If USC accepts me, then I’ll definitely go to that counselor and throw something at her cuz she gave me a huge amount of stress for nothing ;)
