USC Status Update

@thequesitonmark - SOOO ditto. I don’t have a clue what that is supposed to be.

uhhh… can anybody tell me how to check my USC status on the USConnect site?

password is DOB in this format: mmddyy I believe. I tested it, and didn’t work for me, but I also made an account, so not really sure.

Thank you! but i need to know how to get there. im so clueless…

Through the USC connection portal :

Login, go to the admissions tab. Under admissions, you should see two tabs. Click on the one that says something about continuing app/checking status.

Disable pop-up blocker if you have one. It should pop up, scroll down to the bottom. There’s your status.

Last year people reported status updates that had update dates on them… were they just giving the date they saw it or will our updates eventually show us the date they appeared?

Thank you! ^_^

@thequestionmark. There are two tabs for you under admission? Oh no… I only have 1!!

Is the report senior year grades site working for everyone? It keeps saying my info is invalid.

According to people in previous posts, you need to enter your USC ID for the Log in box and as for password, use your six digit birth date (mmddyy). This should work and you will be able to enter and submit your mid-year grades :).

Thank you!

I was also absolutely fine about USC until a few days ago. Since then, though, I can’t stop worrying about these status updates. I told myself that I wouldn’t worry because its out of my hands…but thats so impossible to do now that its happening!

I also can’t stop checking CC lol

Good luck to everyone, I’m sure were all going to be fine!

^ my thoughts exactly!

I am one of the many ppl on CC with this status:

“Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.”

Hopefully this means good news. Lol

But more importantly, why do some kids get acceptance letters so early in late January? Is it just for scholarship purposes? Or do kids get admitted in January even without scholarships?

I heard from my college counselor that USC Admission Officers read College Confidential, especially threads about Status Updates.

What is the significance of that, applewater? Do they try to place a username with an application or something?

AppleWater:

Sure, why not? The staff in Admissions has been working like crazy over the last several weeks and it undoubtedly makes them feel good that all you students are anxiously awaiting good news.

Lol, Tebowforheisman, unfortunately, they actually do not. But last year we thought they were doing that so some of us decided to beg them for acceptances through CC.

FindAPlace: It’s a good and bad thing. The admission officers want the students to get in, but at the same time, applicants read into the status way too much. My college counselor last year ACTUALLY personally called the USC Admission Officers and asked them about the infamous “status updates.” Their response: “The status updates mean nothing.” Although the status updates at least mean “something,” the best indication of an acceptance is when you actually receive it. And I will not tell any of you what it looks like, or what it feels like, or what’s in it. It’s your college acceptance experience and I don’t want to spoil it.

My advice is to NOT worry about the status, and hope for the best. I had a friend last year, he would check his USC status like every 10 minutes.

AppleWater:

Well, my S is so non-plussed about all this I’m not even sure he realizes that an acceptance from USC comes only by snail mail … and he never brings in the mail!

So I guess my plan, should the desired fat pack arrive, is to lovingly carry it in, grumble about him getting all this mail from colleges, still … and then spring it on him.

I’m sure they’ve read CC before, and I bet at least some of them have glanced over it this year, or maybe they have read into it, but I doubt they look into it too much. Fact is that they know the status updates drive everyone crazy, and they know there will be speculation based on these, so they may even be changing them just to mess with us and get us to overthink everything, or they could just be used to categorize a type of student or applicant some way that they’ll never tell us (could even be the people removed from the scholarship pool for all we know), or they could be acceptance/scholarship notification. Really, nobody knows and we probably wont ever find out. We can say however, that in the past students with particular statuses had certain things happen to them, such as early acceptances/scholarship offers, but there have always been exceptions, so don’t worry about it too much, because no matter what the status says, you’re still capable of being accepted and/or getting a scholarship.

That being said, however, I do enjoy the speculation, as they must have some purpose for changing statuses, after all, why do all that work changing specific people’s statuses for nothing?
