USC Student Named Astronaut Scholar

<p>Simca Bouma, a student at USC Dornsife, has been named a 2011 Astronaut Scholar. She received her award from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. </p>

<p>The scholarship is the largest monetary award given in the U.S. to science and engineering undergraduates based solely on merit. Only 26 awards were given this year to outstanding college students majoring in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.</p>

<p>Miss Bouma is a senior majoring in physics and mathematics.. Her interest is in particle physics and quantum mechanics. She plans to pursue a doctorate in theoretical physics after she completes her undergraduate degree.</p>

<p>The award was presented to Simca by Skylab astronaut Jerry Carr USC BS '54.</p>
