Hi-
I posted a while ago, during my first semester of freshman year, now that I have seen my grades and I know the deal, I wanted to repost. I'm a freshman at USC and I want to transfer to NYU next fall. My HS grades aren't very good, (maybe 3.2-3.3, but also at a top challenging school in NYC from which NYU accepts many) but SATs are 1370. My SAT II scores were 680 and 650. (Lit and Writing), adding that so far, my college GPA is 3.9. I asked this in the previous post, but I also have legacy of 3 immediate family members, will that help me or hurt me? Also, do you think that my HS grades will truly be detrimental to my transfer, or will my chances be far better if I apply next spring (07)?
-Thanks-

I don't think your HS grades should hurt you (at least too much), considering you got into USC with them. Obviously, your chances for junior standing would be better, but you could always try now. I'd say you have a chance.

Best of luck :)

Thanks Twenty. Just to add to my post, are there any other LACs in the Northeast that you could suggest for me? I think that I could prefer a boston or NY college town instead of LA (not necessarily an urban environment, just in proximity to NYC or Boston)?
Thanks

Just one thing, I'm a current NYU student and I think you have great chances of getting in. BUT, I'm thinking about transferring next year. What are your reasons for transferring? I have to warn you that NYU is not your typical college experience at all: no campus, no Greek life, and hardly any community. You have to take your own initiative socially and academically. Coming from SC I would imagine this to be quite different. However, if you're up for the challenge and are very independent, I'd say go for it.
As for other colleges in the vicinity of NYC, the only one I can think of is Columbia. Great school, everyone I've met there is very friendly. There are a few not so top-rated colleges in the other burroughs of the city, but I'm not sure if you're interested. And Boston- that's the city of colleges! BC, BU Tufts etc. Good luck with your search.

Hey Dabillono-
I'm actually from Manhattan and almost all of my family members graduated from NYU. I decided to come to SC to have a different experience and to try out LA. While LA is great, its virtually impossible if you dont have a car, which I don't. I guess I'm more used to the subway, bus, walk around type of lifestyle.
Thanks for the suggestions also, however I think I would look into smaller liberal arts colleges... also isn't tufts more of a business-y type school?

Any other school suggestions?

Tufts doesn't even have business as a major. It is an excellent university in all areas, and the best in International Relations. I highly recommend that you apply, very hard to get in, but you come from a good school with a 3.9 :) PM if you have more questions about Tufts. Ciao
