Accepted - School of Cinematic Arts/Critical Studies

Stats:[ul]
[] College transferring from: Los Angeles City College
[] Entering as: Sophomore
[] GPA: 3.42
[] Units completed: 38
[] Units in progress: 0
[] Pre-reqs completed: N/A
[li] GEs completed: I’ve completed most of the requirements for IGETC[/ul]
[/li]

Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: I have a lot of travel experience (France, Spain, Canada).
[] Job/Work Experience: 2 years at my uncle’s tire shop as an Assistant Manager, 1 year at my father’s contracting company as a Payroll Administrator and 1 year internship at a production company as a Production Assistant, and later as a Head Writer for a television series the company developed. Overall, I averaged 32 hours a week while full-time in college.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I wrote my essay about my passion; filmmaking. I spent months thinking about what I should write and ended up writing endless drafts. One morning, I wrote an entirely new essay in less than half an hour. It came from the heart; it didn’t contain any “big” words or try to be something it wasn’t. I poured my heart in that essay and nobody, not even a family member, revised it. I spent a week or two going over grammar mistakes and left it as is. Only a few family members read it upon completition and they were in tears.
[] Letters of Recommendation: 3 were required for SCA. 1) My English professor who was a very nice young lady, who has loads of degrees - and is still pursuing an MSIL from UCLA - she also has a PhD. She spoke about my ability to critically analyze written work. 2) My employer from the production company, who was accepted to USC three times but never went because he could never afford to go. He discussed my internship and how I went from a Production Assistant to Head Writer in a few months; the letter showed my leadership abilities. 3) The Cinema-Television Department Chairman from my city college. He spoke about the projects I made in his course and how I stood out from the rest of the class.[/ul]

Other:[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: New York University (Rejected) and Chapman University (Pending)
[] Comments: I never thought I would be filling out this form. It’s been my dream since a child to pursue a career in film and that dream has finally been realized. I was so discouraged by my GPA and people told me it wasn’t possible to transfer to USC with a GPA lower than 3.5-3.6. I can’t believe this happening, because I’ve been through so much in my life and things never work out for me. I hope people will realize anything is possible and dreams do come true.
[/ul]

Accepted - Marshall School of Business/Busi Admin

Stats:[ul]
[] College transferring from: Community College
[] Entering as: Junior
[] GPA: 3.8
[] Units completed: 93
[] Units in progress: 10
[] Pre-reqs completed: All
[] GEs completed: All but one
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: President of AGS, recreational sports.
[] Job/Work Experience: Tutor.
[] Essays (subject and responses): Crap, filled out application at the last minute. A few grevious typos and grammatical errors.
[] Letters of Recommendation: Not required, didn’t send.
[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: Northwestern, Gtown. Regardless of their decision, I won’t be attending either.
[li] Comments: Feels kinda good after being rejected from UCLA Biz Econ. (Especially since I have 4.0 in my pre-reqs, two jobs, president of AGS, 17 years old). However, I will not be attending. Just way too expensive. I’m also a bit surprised they accepted me. Although I know I had the grades, I bsed my essays and I spent the 3 minutes before the deadline answering all the short questions. If you search way back earlier in the thread, you will actually see I submitted the application a few seconds after the deadline. I originally applied as a backup for UCLA, but now I won’t be attending either school. A lot of things have happened since February and it looks like I’m going to be going on a totally different path. Nonetheless congratulations to all who got in, and to those who didn’t, don’t worry there are plenty of other great schools out there.
[/li]

I knew that many people would discuss what their passions truly were…which is fine…mine is acting…but I wanted to go another way. I chose to write about my passion for knitting…using knitting as a metaphor for my life and the trials and tribulations I have encountered. Etc, etc, etc.

[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: NYU (accepted), UCSD (accepted), UCLA (rejected), LMU (accepted)
[li] Comments: I NEVER thought I would get accepted to USC, especially to Annenberg! I moved out to NYC from San Diego right after high school graduation and took two years off to work, gain NY residency, and save money before enrolling at a junior college in Manhattan. I really never wanted to attend college because in my field of interest (fashion) it is not very necessary. But after working in fashion for a few years while going to school, I realized how much of an asset I can be to the industry with a strong academic background. I took the long road but it was worth it! I am soooooo excited to become a Trojan! Good luck to everyone and fight on! Btw-does anyone wanna sublease my NYC apartment?![/li][/ul]
