This might seem really stupid, but I want to transfer to USC and I'm considering majoring in sociology. On their website it says the course recommendations and it just says "SOCI 200". What exactly does that mean? Should I take more sociology courses or can I take other courses I enjoy like psychology/art history?

Another retarded question, but to transfer as a sophomore, I needed to apply this year to transfer by Fall 2010 right?

It probably just means a higher level (200 level) sociology course. Talk to your schools counselors about what could satisfy that requirement, look through your schools course guide and come up with what you think may work and call USC and see what they’d recommend

Look up the transfer credit articulation history for your school & USC here:

https://camel.usc.edu/articagrmt/artic_hist_range.aspx

For example, I plugged in my CC in Nevada I am gonna try to transfer to usc from and it says SOC 101 at my school transfers across as SOCI200 at USC.

You should consider looking up the class schedule on the usc website and see their list of soc courses and I bet soci200 is probably the entry level course.

p.s. the above transfer history will give you a good idea of what to take at your current school to cover the GE categories also.

I know for my school, Soc101 is equivalent to the Soci200 USC requires. I’m not sure about this, but I would think the more sociology classes you have under your belt would look a lot better come time for admissions considering you are a sociology major.

I’m applying to USC for sociology as well.

The research I have done through the articulation agreement USC has at my school has recommended I take Sociology 101 (The introduction to Sociology-Basic level) and Math 150 (Statistics) as “Major Prep” classes. I imagine the completion of these classes would give you an edge in an application.
