USC/University of Michigan Chances?

Ok so, I'm from Ohio and from a High School ranking around 250th in the nation.

I also did a 6-week college program at Miami, where I took 2 college classes (Psychology 111 and Computer Programming 251), slept at the dorms and lived there, and now have guaranteed Admission to Miami because of it.

I really would like to study languages (several if possible) or business psychology/management.

So basically, what are my chances of getting in to University of Southern California and/or University of Michigan? And what chances do I have for scholarships, if any?

Any replies are greatly appreciated! :)

I think you have a strong chance at University of Michigan. I personally know 5 people who went there this year with an average 3.1 but thats because they did sports.

But Im sure U of M will get you in, however USC im not sure of USC, what are you planning on getting into at USC

USC would probably be a reach though not at all out of the question based on your ACT. I don’t know about their FA though. About 1/3 OOS admisions, but a significantly smaller class-size than Michigan

Michigan I’d say a very good shot at admission – top 10%, excellent ACT, very nice EC’s. Scholarships are a bit trickier at Michigan right now. Michigan gives a good number of Diversity Scholarships to kids from outside Michigan, but I’m not sure how Ohio would fit. The LSA College (Lit, Scien, Arts) also gives a fair number of decent sized scholarships based on Merit.

Your SAT/ACT scores don’t correlate very well – a little odd, but Michigan is basically an ACT heavy school and 32 is already above their 75th Percentile for admitted students, and about 1/3 of their admissions are OOS.

I’d be careful with your essay choice.

Are you looking at Swim Team possibilities? Obviously both schools are pretty strong.

I’ll throw Indiana- Bloomington into the discussion if you are pretty sure that language and/or business courses interest you. They have some decent size automatic merit scholarship I’m pretty sure you qualify for (9K per year).

University of Alabama Honors program might interest you. Their language department probably isn’t on the same level as some of the other schools you are looking at though it’s still very good. The Business school is excellent though a notch below Michigan and Indiana. With your GPA and ACT I think you meet the standard for a full OOS tuition award. The swim program’s excellent as well if that interests you beyond HS and the program has a significant emphasis on academics – the last several years they have won a number of Academic Honors.
