USC vs others for PetE

Hi, I'm a class 11 student from India. I'm interested in a career in PetE and am trying to shortlist colleges. While TAMU is probably academically and placement-wise superior for PetE, I'm drawn to USC because of the diversity (TAMU is only 1% international), LA!!! and the merit scholarship opportunities for internationals.

My problem is that, as USC only offers MechE (my preference over ChemE in this case) or ChemE with a PetE concentration, I won't get as good a job as PetE majors, and when I do, I won't be paid as much. Is this true? On the other hand, is the MechE + PetE major advantageous as it will offer more diverse job opportunities?

I'm also looking at Colorado School of Mines, University of Tulsa, LSU and UT Austin though TAMU and UT Austin (very hard for OOS and internationals to get in; I'd prefer it to TAMU) will be my preferences among those other than USC.
