<p>Hey everyone. I am planning on majoring in computer science and would like to eventually have a career in video game programming. Both USC and Rose Hulman have very strong computer science departments, but I can't decide between the two. I currently live in California, so USC would be more convenient geographically since Rose Hulman is in Indiana. However, Rose Hulman seems to have a more inviting environment than USC and a more unique college experience. I was wondering if someone could give me some more insight on the two to help me decide. <p>The environment there is one of a kind, however. Extremely small, all PhD professors, student- based.</p>
<p>I don’t think it would be worth the enormous difference in cash to go to RHIT, though.</p>
<p>Money isn’t a problem in this case. Would you still say USC over RHIT?</p>

<p>RHIT was one of my son’s top schools. He wanted a small school, and Rose Hulman looked really good to both of us. It’s got an undergrad focus - the main job of the profs is to teach the students. And of course it’s ranked #1 engineering school for schools with no PhD, for whatever that’s worth. rsingh13 does have a point, though - the most recent data for gender is ridiculous! 22% Women, 78% Men according to College Board. There is a girl’s school nearby, though, I think.</p>
<p>dude, do you really want to be spend your 4 precious years of college in Terre Haute, Indiana surrounded by 78% of men and spend your weekends playing computers games in your dorm?</p>
<p>I have also visted both schools… and have to say blbk has a point, but it really depends on what works for the OP. The two schools could hardly be more different! Just keep in mind that a lot of people that think they want to be Engineers, decide later that they changed their mind. If you’re at Rose Hulman and change your mind, you have to transfer schools. At USC, you can just change classes. You might, just maybe, also consider the weather…unless you are more of a skier than a surfer.

<p>You only have to transfer out of RHIT if you want to leave STEM fields completely. They also have math, physics, etc. You just can’t major in the other 80% of majors! :D</p>
<p>Have you been accepted to both these choices? USC has a top notch video game major in Viterbi. It is the CS/Games major. Go to their site and read about the huge game demo day held there. It had to be moved to a large auditorium to hold all the attendees.</p>
<p>SC is a private university. Classes are taught by professors. Discussion groups may have TAs. Even though it is a large university the student faculty ratio is 9/1. About 27% of the engineering students are female. Viterbi has an honors program which may interest you. </p>
<p>John Mork, Andrew Viterbi and Ming Hsieh have donated millions to the school. I suggest you visit, tour the facilities and see what is happening at the game pipe lab.</p>
