USC?

So I’m a junior in high school in upstate New York who wants to go to SoCal to go to USC. Yup, it’s far away, but I’m in love with the school.
My current unweighted GPA is 3.75. I took AP world history last year and got a 4, and taking two more APs this year, and I will take at least one my senior year.
I took honors math up until my junior year and honors science/social studies.
When I was in 8th grade I attended and graduated from Young Entrepreneurs Academy.
I have played the viola through my school and privately a little for 8 years so far.
I don’t do any sports- but I did tech crew when I was a freshman (backstage crew doing tech stuff for school plays).
Now really the only club I do is film club, where we get together on wednesdays and make films and sometimes watch films. I know I should probably do more clubs (but tbh, right now there isn’t one I really like).
I haven’t taken my SATs yet- that will come this year.

Oh, and I’m not planning on going to USC film school because the chances of that are practically none, and I’m not even sure if that’s what I want to do with my life. My plan would be to go to USC as an undergrad and major in something I like, like French, and also take some film classes. Then if I’m still into it I might apply to USC cinematic arts for graduate school.

So what are my chances?

You need test scores before anyone can chance you. Your on track with your GPA. Colleges do not care what you did in 8th grade only what you have accomplished in HS. Your EC’s are light and volunteering/community service and leadership positions are important.

Here is USC’s Freshman profile. Take a look at the stats and see what to aim for in terms of GPA and test scores. Also make sure USC is affordable by running the net price calculator and showing the costs to your parents. Be sure to include transportation costs from the east coast

For those looking to get “Chanced”, I suggest reading an excellent thread on the topic from the beginning…

I also suggest reading through the following very helpful insider’s guide to USC admissions…

Best wishes… and Fight On!

And have the budget talk with your parents. USC is at the tip top in costs. Run the Net Price Calculator.

If you are really interested in USC, and can afford it, you should apply for one of their summer programs. Attending is a great way to show interest and will enhance your interview (which you should definitely do). You can take film classes without being a film major, but you may have a harder time getting into the competitive ones.
