I also posted this in the Stanford board, but basically would Yale be offended that I used my Stanford essay (something someone said to you) rather than write an original one (I'm pretty certain they'll know from the topic it was the one I used for Stanford's).

i would alter it a bit to tailor Yale's but if it is great and it conveys what you want it to about your self than keep it. remember though that you will probably not be the onlyone doing this so i would re-evaluate it with that in mind and edit out the too-stanford-style specific stuff.....

"edit out the too-stanford-style specific stuff....."

Please explain....there's different styles for different schools?

Did you mean mentioning Stanford or anything to do with it because I didn't.

def. use the same essay.

im using like all the same essays for all my apps.

they dont expect you to write new essays for all the colleges your applying to

change it a bit if you want. but id use the same one.

If they know it's for Stanford, that might decrease you in their mind, because they'll think you didn't have th effort to do it for both. Incidentally, a lot of college professors are miffed that students don't have enough time to do research for their class and instead use part of their research from another class and go on a tangent.

If it's a good essay and fills the criteria for the question, then that is good. Did they ask you the same question?

If it fits the prompt, go for it

There is no prompt! so i'd say go for it. I'm reusing my yale essay for harvard.

i don't think they really care very much about what topic or school you may or may not have used the essay for...
after all, it is for college admissions (where they are trying to get to know you better), and not really quite the same as writting papers for professors (who want you to do the work for a grade).

what i mean is that if it is completely obvious that it is the stanford prompt than i think that will hurt you, but i don't know how you wrote it...the way you introduce what the saying is is key, if it is like a story then i think it would be ok.....if you like you can pm it over and i'd be glad to read it for you.
