Hey guys. I recently got accepted to both UF and USF (the honors college) and I'm in a little tizzy trying to decide. I'm planning to go to graduate school in New York after I'm done with all my undergraduate studies. What do you think would be the best decision in regards to opportunities provided, academics, etc for graduate studies? I wish to attend either NYU or Columbia.

Either UF or USF Honors can provide a sound foundation for graduate studies. In what field of studies do you want to concentrate? Why NYU or Columbia for graduate work?

I’m planning to do Political Science. New York has always been a dream for me to live in; I was accepted to NYU but my mother won’t allow me to attend for undergraduate studies.

I’m just afraid as to what I need to do; I’m afraid of the lack of opportunities offered to me in the long run, or the quality of education.

lambpox, I attend USF and I am sold on the quality of the school. What I might do if I were in your shoes is e-mail the dean of the USF Honors College and ask for a conference with him or another adviser to discuss choosing a school because you are undecided yet. When you meet with them get a gameplan put together on how to reach your goal of graduate school.

lambpox, i’m in the exact same situation!
i got into NYU CAS and it has always been a dream to go there, but it’s way too expensive since i want to go onto graduate school for sure.

now i’m also deciding between UF and USF honors…
so, i was wondering have you decided yet? and if so what made you choose one over the other?

Hey gatorbull and lambox… I was pretty much in a smiliar situation sometime back… After talking to many professors and parents and students who’ve been thru this… i realized that all of em said the same thing :if your going to grad sch, where u get ur undergrad degree from truly doesnt matter. Ultimately its ur GPA when you graduate from USF that counts for the kinda grad sch you can get into. not the school’s popularity or anything like that. Plus, since you guys have been offered Honors Admission, things are gonna be even easier cos apparently Honors at USF offers a ton of opportunity in research/scholarships/everyday lessons. Also, it is worth saving up the money that would otherwise be put into UF/NYU by going to USF now and eventually using it for grad school later(they cost wayy more).

Its just my take on it… and after much consideration, I’m giving up Purdue, UF, Univ of Vermont and Michigan State for USF. hope this helped! (:
