Son decided last night after his CVW weekend to go for USNA over GW, BC, USAFA, and USMA. The roommate of the midshipman he was assigned to helped tip the balance for him. He told him that yeah, the first 6+ months is rough and doesn't seem to make sense but you've got to just stay focused on the big picture. Also, he mentioned how most students their age are wandering and unfocused and somewhat lost and together at USNA, they have common goals.

Our entire extended family is ecstatic and so proud and scared. :) Ok, so maybe only me, Mom, is a bit scared.

I've already emailed him detailed directions of the stuff he has to do to get his citizenship revoked ASAP. I'm concerned but suspect that some other part of the paperwork will give us more trouble because isn't it always like that? Expect the unexpected...

We actually have to send the passport and his registration stuff back to Australia. Burning it would get us in trouble... :)

My 14-year-old son, upon hearing the news from older son said "Great! You can check it out for me!"

Thanks again. I'm having to control myself as I'm tempted to go shopping online for All Things Navy. I could drop a ton of money on all kinds of things if I don't watch myself! blankets, bracelets, stickers, clothing....

Pace yourself, dear. It's a long race ... to say nothing of a constant stream of 'new and improved' paraphenalia, garb, and bobbles! And of course we're always justifying our desired and totally unnecessary purchases with, "well look @ how much this matriculation is saving me ... might as well unload it on that studded diamond sweatshirt that goes 'baaaaaaaaaa' when you press Bill's nose or whatever ..." And you have the hats with the "whatever's" on the adjustable back strap ...

 And just you wait until your 'Admit One Free But Don't Let One Out Free' card to the marvelous, mystical, magical, miraculous MID STORE.

Ahhhh ... just you wait, Midshipman Higgins' Mom!

After my daughter accepted her appointment, she bought a USNA sweatshirt online so she could wear it on high school senior college day. Shopping in the mid store is always fun--I buy my running shoes there too.

start with a sticker on the car.
on I-day get the Class of whatever tee shirt. Make sure your plebe's name is on it.
Then wait it out until after plebe summer.
*Come parents weekend, take your $200 and head directly to Midstore and go nuts.

The REAL midstore is only in person, and as someone mentioned, it's only open to parents during their mids' tenure @ USNA. Great selection, great quality and amazing prices. Try to resist the urge to buy too much online stuff -- midstore merchandise is unbelievable.

Congrat's to your son and your whole family.

we also waited until PPW to "buy out the store" for ourselves and all the relatives. we didn't want to have all the stuff if he didn't make it through the summer.
