USNA Medical Waiver Received ?

Hello,

My son received a letter from USNA stating that "a waiver of medical standards has been approved". He has received a nomination, passed CFA and is academically qualified.

I have read that USNA Admissions only pursues medical waivers for those candidates they deemed fully qualified and plan to make an offer of appointment. Is this correct?

Thank you

I’ve not heard that absent an LOA.

They pursue waivers for those deemed competitive after completing enough of the application. That process has to start early, even before the nominations come in. Congratulations on getting the waiver.

Thanks to all for the assistance . This is my son’s second time to apply to USNA, as he was not selected for class of 2015. The only difference this year is he received a congressional nom instead of a senator nom, recieved the medical waiver and has one semester of college and is active in NROTC at his college.
Last year I spoke with a lady in the medical board office and she stated to me that USNA doesn’t even start the waiver process unless they either offer an LOA or conditional letter of appointment. Guess only time will tell if that statement is true, until then we wait. Thanks again

My son has had a completed package in with USNA since December 2011. We received notification that he was DQ’d for Asthma. Since then he has had the methacholine challenge test and does not have Asthma. Will the Academy review his new SAT scores and his medical evaluation? Another academy has him on"hold" and he has received a waiver from them.

I would appreciate some feedback. Thank you :)

@MDMOMM - you can submit the new medical test results to DODMERB and the USNA waiver folks will look at them. The other academy’s waiver seems promising, but it doesn’t guarantee that USNA would grant the same waiver. Good luck.

whydoicare-Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the input. Since my last post DS has been offered an appointment to the service academy that requested the waiver. I understand that not every academy seeks waivers the same way or that they approve them the same way. I guess the amount of “fully qualified” candidates would dictate whether they are sought in the first place. Cannot complain however our DS is thrilled with his offer of appointment but still waits to see if his 1st choice comes through!

PS. Why do you care? Has anyone ever asked you that before?
