USNWR Gap

I noticed that the USNWR does not include the military academies in their rankings, probably because they are military institutions. Where do you think these schools would fall?

I'm not sure, but I would guess that WP would probably land in the top 5 - maybe after HYP.

Not sure about the others.

They are listed 20th (Navy) and 22nd (Army) under liberal arts colleges.

oh ok. Thanks.

Although the USNA & the USMA are now included in the LAC rankings, the USAFA & the USCGA are ranked regionally in the Best Baccalaureate Colleges section of USNews. Coast Guard is #2 in the North region; the Air Force Academy is ranked #1 in the West region.

I never knew they are strong in liberal arts. I thought they are "One focus" type school.

<a href="http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/t1libartco_brief.php%5B/url%5D">http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/t1libartco_brief.php</a></p>

well they arent considered national universities because they arent research focused and dont have grad schools

Focused, yes. Limited in studies, not really.
USAFA has over 30 majors, from english, to foreign area studies, to astronautical engineering. However, the focus is on graduating leaders for that academy's respective branch.

I would say the Academies come closest to the traditional definition of a Liberal Arts education. While there each person has two years of advanced math, four years of english/lit/speech, management, econ, philosophy, political science, psychology, 30 hours of hard science and engineering, not to mention the obligatory leadership classes and your chosen major.

And I have no idea why USAFA is not considered in the same category as USMA and USNA for USNWR. Makes no sense.

Is it possible that colleges are allowed to specify whether they would like to be rated regionally versus nationally? The number one ranking for the USAFA @ Colorado Springs looks great and maybe the school didn't want to be ranked nationally behind USMA @ West Point & the USNA @ Annapolis.
