USPS or UPS...taking bets!

I forgot to order something my overseas son asked me to get for his sister (it’s a coloring book of good-looking guys, ha). I ordered it on Amazon last night and it’s supposed to get here tomorrow. Amazon has been pretty accurate with its delivery dates, so we’ll see!

This morning’s USPS Informed Delivery email finally shows a picture of the card MIL sent us with a check for Christmas gifts. It has a 12/2 postmark, so three weeks to get a piece of first class mail. We had just given up hope yesterday that it would ever show up, so MIL mailed a second check. She had not canceled the first check, so we will cash it, and rip up the next check, if that one ever arrives. It will be interesting to see how long the second card takes.

Of course, I should not count my chickens before they hatch. The first card is supposed to be in today’s mail, but I will believe it when I actually see it in the mailbox.

My USPS Informed Delivery email also notified that my package is being delivered today. Shipped from Orland Park, IL. on Dec. 5, transported to another USPS facility just 30 miles up north in Elk Grove Village on Dec. 18, nearly 2 weeks to move 30 miles!, so I figure I won’t receive the package until well past the new year. But finally!

Hope no one has a Dad like mine who sends cash in the mail.

I do - my parents and in-laws both used to send cash in the mail regularly. It drove use crazy. I think we got lucky that none of these gifts were ever stolen. Now, as a joke my sister-in-law includes a one dollar bill in all the cards she sends us for our birthdays.

Well it had seemed too good. Now UPS says package sent Sunday in VA is scheduled to arrive Tuesday instead of tomorrow in CO.

My amazon package to daughter showed up! Only one day later than originally promised! At least one thing showed up!

I am going to sing the praises of USPS priority mail today. S received the engagement ring from the jeweler today. His GF knows its coming sometime, but she’ll be shocked to get it tonight. I never in a million years thought the jeweler and USPS could pull this off.

Congratulations - that will be an awesome surprise. I would’ve been on pins and needles sending something that valuable via USPS! (Edited to add that this reply was meant for the previous poster - despite quoting her post, CC deleted it for some reason! :rage:)

I ordered a t-shirt for some singer my daughter loves from London. I had no expectation, despite ordering at the end of November, that it would arrive. No tracking so no way to know. So today, I was picking up an Amazon box dh brought inside that was delivered yesterday. Underneath was the package from London! Dh never even told me it came! He apparently quickly hid it there so our daughter would not see it but never bothered to tell me. So now, I can say, everything I ordered has been delivered. Only one order never showed up (FEDEX said they delivered it but did not) but the company sent a replacement and that arrived in time.

Hope everyone still waiting on packages gets them eventually!

Still waiting on a Usps 2 day priority small pack that was sent Dec. 11. It has apparently made it to the metro area somewhere.

Re: the FedEx package. Did you look everywhere around your house? I had the same thing happen. They said they delivered. I saw nothing. The Ring doorbells recorded nobody near the time they said they delivered. I finally found it 2 days later. It was on the side of my house under a swing. I guess they are trying to hide them from porch pirates?

My aunt had that happen last year. She fought with UPS as the package showed delivered, but it wasn’t there. Turns out, her husband found it 2 weeks later while trimming the bushes. It was behind the bushes near their front door, but shoved to the bottom and totally hidden!

Son can lack common sense at times, but he’s also got the luck of the Irish protecting him. This isn’t the first time he’s put the rest of us on pins and needles and it always seems to work out for him.

Shipping is so inconsistent these days. We weren’t going to send holiday cards this year and then sentimentality hit about December 17. Dh created one on shutterfly and I was stunned when they were delivered, without expedited shipping, just 3 days after the order was placed. (We did New Year’s cards due to the late date.) We spent about 48 hours getting them signed, addressed, etc. D2 and I dropped them in our town’s post office’s outside mailbox the afternoon of the 23rd. My mom and two aunts received them the very next day. This was from the Bay Area to LA.

Those were the very quick deliveries. A hanukah present for dh was purchased November 29 and we’re still waiting for it…

I wish I had read this thread before I sent my family Christmas packages. :frowning: I sent four packages USPS Friday 12/18. I did two day shipping thinking even if it took twice that long they would still get there by Christmas. Packages were sent from Florida - one went to San Francisco, one to Boston, two to Boston suburbs.

San Francisco made it Christmas Eve. The Boston package made it today, a day after Christmas. The Boston suburb packages show they have been sitting in the next town over since Dec. 21 and they still aren’t there.

At the last minute, 12/21, I sent a second package to my mom’s house outside Boston. I was getting nervous about USPS so I spent a ton of money on Fed Ex who said it would get there 12/23 by 8pm and they were right on time. Wish I had sent everything Fed Ex!

My county is giving everyone a free at home Covid test and they are shipped to the requester and back to the lab by FedEx. So at least in my area FedEx is swamped. I had a package out for delivery Christmas Eve and the message was that they didn’t deliver because the business was closed. We live in a house and we were home so I am not sure what that message was about.

IF I have to send something and expect it to get there, I’d send it Fedex. Next UPS but only because their tracking is better than the post office. The USPS is great by us, because we have a great postman. But when he’s out, boxes are placed on the stone wall, in the street and even once under the rain spout :(. I think all these folks have a lot of work these days ( probably too much).

I am pretty upset at USPS. My brother mailed notarized documents from Idaho to Oregon priority mail on 12/17, expected delivery 12/21. These are documents we need to get Mom’s estate closed by the end of the year. They sat in the next town over for a week or so… not delivered yet, but “out for delivery” … yeah, right. First class 55¢ stamp vs $8.30 would have arrived just as fast or faster actually. sigh

The 2 day priority sent from Jax to Atl took 2 weeks! But the day they said it would be delivered, it was.

Ha? Ha? Is that a win?
