Hi, I’m a Texas resident and have been a pap art student all four years of highschool. I didn’t do every good my freshman or sophomore year. Maybe finished with a few A’s B’s and one C in Spanish. I finished sophomore year with a 3.5 overall GPA I finished with a 4.0 this year with a high A In every class (end of my junior year) I’m looking to major at the university of Texas at Austin in a bachelor science of arts and entertainment technologies degree. Next year I am taking AV video production and sound engineering as well as all AP classes for my senior year, including AP art and science. I haven’t gotten act or sat scores back yet but I was curious on how the admission process worked with their art department. Is it just as competitive? I have a professional portfolio as well as I work for several music non profits and organizations. I put together local concerts in downtown dallas, I interview bands for profit that all goes to the charity of their choice. I teach children during summer classes at my local art studio, help with a non profit for deaf people in the music industry, volenteering for Austin City Limits next year, and I am also looking into doing sound engineering for my church. I have several part time jobs as well. I have a huge variety of things on my resume. How are my chances? The major is new and was established in 2016 so I don’t believe many people know about it yet… only a resume is required but I will send a portfolio anyways.
thank you!
I don’t know the answer to your question because I don’t know if there are certain requirements they look at initially rank, SAT/ACT scores that would prevent them from looking at your resume and portfolio. Hopefully not because you will be in the group that has a holistic review for entry. I hope your HS does not rank, I think that would increase your chances.
You definitely have the focus and desire for that major. Go for it but also look at other schools. The one that comes to my mind is University of North Texas. They have a strong fine arts program. Good luck to you and maybe some others have a better idea how the admittance in that area is actually done.
Thank you so much.
I’m just trying to get as much information as possible.
