Hi
I’m extremely nervous about my chances of getting into UT.
I have a 5.8 out of 6 GPA.
1310 new sat
670 math
640 reading
I’m going to graduate with 12 AP classes.
B average in the classes.
Passing all the AP test.
World history Subject test approx 600.
Biology Subject test approx 680.
Extra curricular
51 hours of community service.
Swim team captain.
Extremely successful swimmer ( regional and MVP every year )
huge amount of hours swimming ( shows dedication? )
Chess club and was a successful player.
National Beta society.
Competed in math and science competitions before ( although nothing noteworthy )
Thanks to anyone who reads this. I swear waiting for my admission reply is making me want to tear my hair out. Also I applied for math and computer science my app got in after the early admission.
P.S. Good essay’s in the sense that they are about extremely good topics however they do have errors that make them seem a bit rushed which is true because my English teacher was pushing me to rush it saying I had no chance to get in otherwise.
Oh ya also 11% of my class.
To be honest, your chances at UT CS is extremely low due to your SAT score and class rank. “CS is the most competitive major at UT” (quote from UT admissions), and your SAT is below average for the university as a whole, for non-top 7% students (which includes some of the less competitive majors).
The score is out of 1600. We recently changed from 2400.
Or is 1310 still low on the 1600 scale?
Yeah, if you had 1310/2400 you’d have not shot.
But like I said, it’s the most competitive major on campus, and your stats are below average.

UT, by state law, is required to admit 75% of their class as top 7% Texas students. Another 15% is left for students, like you, who did not make the 7% cut off, and 10% is for OOS and international students.
When I spoke with admissions on my tour and I said I was applying for CS, the first question she asked me was if I was in the top 7. It’s the most important factor admittance.
I also applied for the math major at the school how would I rank for that?
Which did you apply for first? If you apply for CS as your second major, you won’t be considered as an applicant because the major is so competitive that they only want first pick students.
Math is not as bad, but it’s not as easy as liberal arts. The average SAT of the college of natural sciences is a 30 (which is higher than the university overall), so CNS is one of he harder schools to get into.
Thanks a lot for your time and help by the way.
I don’t think CS is in your range but you have a decent shot at getting math I’d say.
I agree with KohliTheBeast
