UT’s nickname is the 40 Acres.
@itsgettingreal17 My son just figured that out. It has nothing to do scholarship… Looks like Its just an invite for all admitted students. Thanks for clarifying.
@AllenTx15 , Hi , Will it be ok to share your Son’s credentials? School Rank, ACT/SAT/ AP classes, extra curricular- Thanks in advance?
@krimanTX ACT - 36 SAT 2330 ( R -800 M-800 W-730 ) . GPA 4.0 (Un Weighted) / Welch Summer Scholarship ,
Research , Medical Shadowing, Hospital Internship, General Community Service
National Merit Finalist / USABO Semi Finalist
School Does not Rank
@AllenTx15 . Thank you & Awesome credentials. Wishing him all the very best
@kirmanTX… Thx… This whole college application process is so stressful for students. I am glad he is done with all applications. Just wait till April and see what works out.
Good Luck to you too…
@AllenTx15 . Yes . Completely agree with you. BTW one more follow up question. You indicated, National merit finalist. Is the finalist have been published? My Son is a Semifinalist but have not heard about finalist yet.
@krimanTX . From the NMSC website- “In February, some 15,000 Semifinalists are notified by mail at their home addresses that they have advanced to Finalist standing. High school principals are notified and provided with a certificate to present to each Finalist.”
I can confirm that the “Best of Texas” day has nothing to do with the Forty Acres Scholarship. I didn’t even apply to the scholarship and got the email invitation for the visit sometime this morning.
Stats were similar to @AllenTx15 's S: 35 ACT, 800 Math II, 790 Physics, 4.0 UW, Valedictorian, heavy on tennis, cancer research & shadowing, founded a couple charity organizations, community service league, science/math team competitions, with leadership sprinkled throughout. NMSF, AP Scholar something, Gold Medals on National German Exams, and minor school stuff. Was accepted to UT CNS & Plan II, deferred Yale SCEA if that helps provide reference
@krimanTX …Yes it is semi-finalist not finalist. I think no one knows their finalist status until March.
Not knowing much about Forty Acres nickname I got confused. Sorry for creating some confusion here. He figured it has just to do with meet and greet for all admitted students.
@Gh0st3737 you have excellent credentials and ECs. Specially being a Valedictorian I am sure you will get multiple top tier schools. Good Luck
Does anyone know when the next wave of decisions come out?
In past years, the Best of Texas day is only for certain admitted students. I believe each college chooses the students they want to invite and impress! COLA invited the Liberal Arts Honors students in 2015. It was a good program and I recommend that you attend if possible.
@FloMoMom Thanks for the info. We are still waiting on Honors decision.
I’ve noticed from the November and December admissions waves that waves usually go out the third Friday of the month. If pattern continues, that should be the 20th of this month. However, I read earlier in this thread that someone had called the admissions office and they supposedly said there would not be a January wave so who really knows. It’s just a guess so I might be wrong :-/ starting to get impatient for my decision! lol
On January 5th someone sent a Tweet to UT Austin Admissions asking about the next wave, and they said only that they are sorry that they don’t have any information on that yet. When my student was waiting and we asked them, that was their standard reply. I think that, just like last year, there will be a late January wave. It might not be a big one, but I believe there will be one. It seems they have been working on transfers most recently. Last year’s news came on Jan 21st in the evening. Good luck to those still waiting!
Is the UT Site working properly? For some reason, I cant check application status. None of the MyStatus links seem to be working.
They just posted this alert.
