@Jnyfrtx did you hear about a friday wave from a school counselor or someone in admissions that there is a large wave friday? I usually hear but I have not heard this time.
@tb2000 I heard from the UT admissions office; they said they thought there would be one this Friday. Of course, who really knows with UT!
So if i just sent my teacher recs in today will i still maybe hear from UT on Friday?
@piday314 probably not. slim chance
Are only strong candidates for admission going to hear on Friday? Or will it just be random?
I don’t think there’s any way of knowing who’s going to hear what and when. I was hoping my son would have heard back by now. I’d consider him a strong admit, with a 35 ACT, 4.5 GPA, and strong essays and EC’s (non-ranking Texas private school). The online portal shows that everything was received October 19, but it still says his application in review. Sigh. My fingers are crossed for this Friday. Texas A&M sent an acceptance 4 weeks ago, but he has zero desire to go there.
@slhogan Basically only automatic admits (top 7% of the school) have been accepted. Everyone else is still waiting to hear back
@piday314 Some non auto admits have been accepted already.
Posted on an engineering thread:
I spoke to an Austin Admissions Counselor yesterday and she stated:
~50,000 applicants;
2.4% (1200) were informed of program decision to date, 80% (960) were auto-admit; 20% (240 were not auto-admit);
75% of freshman class has to be auto-admits;
90% of freshman class have to be Texas residents;
Auto-admits might not get desired program (i.e. Engineering);
Applicants by priority deadline will receive notification by 2/1/18 regardless if auto-admit/residency.
What is the acceptance rate of a non auto texan admit?
@Lupescupe
According to the Student Profile on UT’s website
Freshman Admission Rate
In-state applicants: 48%
Automatically admitted: 100%
Not automatically admitted: 20%
Out-of-state applicants: 31%
What is the difference between “In-State Applicants” and “Not-Automatically Admitted” students?
In-state applicants refers to those who are Texas Residents (auto and non-auto). Non-automatically admitted students include those who are not Texas residents, attend a non-ranking school in Texas, or are Texas residents ranked outside the top 7% of their class. @slhogan
I spoke with admissions today, I asked about Plan 2 and if there was going to be another wave of announcements and she said there should be another before the Christmas break - possibly 500-1000 additional applicants, although this isn’t just Plan 2, she wasn’t sure about Plan 2. She said after the break, we will see more for February and March. She mentioned that there were about 1000 already admitted in the first wave. What I thought interesting and what prompted my call was that both my children, who applied, who are auto admit and applied for Plan 2, did not make it in the first round. Although, a very silent round happened last weekend and only one child is now showing accepted under the honors tab on the portal. No email, no communication - the only reason I checked their status was because of CC posts. So now one is confirmed and the other is admitted but “still in review”. It is very random, and being patient I think is the biggest piece to this puzzle. I hope my other child is accepted to Plan 2 in this next round, just to feel solid. Both my kids are in the top 2% of a class size of about 450- public high school. SAT Scores: 1520 & 1560. ACT Scores: 32 & 34. GPA: 5.4 & 5.4. Will have completed 15 AP courses each 9-12. Extremely well rounded individuals.
Anyone apply after the bhp deadline and get a interview yet?
I got auto-admit in late October (I applied Oct 4th), then a week later I got into government major at the Liberal Arts school. I still have not heard back from honors but I heard that they want to send those out by winter break (so, soon). Ut direct will send you an email if there any updates to your portal in the last 24 hours. It is rolling admissions so as long as everything is completed you just have to hang until they get back to you. Hook em!
Fingers crossed for a CNS CS wave.
admissions office said it’s false that any decisions wld come out tomorrow… she just stuck to february 1st and march 1st… anyone care to comment? obviously don’t believe this as people have received decisions
This is not true, as my daughter’s college counselor said decisions would be coming out tomorrow - as well as the UT admissions department stating decisions are coming out tomorrow, too. Frustrating that UT keeps everything so secretive! There have been several waves of decisions already.
that’s what I thought, they’re so weird sometimes
