UT Austin Dean's Scholars Fall 2016 Admission

My daughter applied to Dean’s Scholars and Presidential Scholars back in mid October. She got her CNS major back in January, but her Dean’s and Presidential both say “in review” still so you are not alone in your wait. Still hoping for good news…

Oh ok thanks. I received my major a while back as well, and on my status page it says my honors app is under review as well. Nice to know I’m not the only one. I wish her the best of luck

My daughter finally got into her major today of CS, but deans honors app still says in review. Does anyone know if they are still accepting candidates into deans honors or is it likely all full? I wonder if they send out rejections or if we just never hear?

@Bailey101 - I do believe that all CS Turing Honors have been notified. Dean’s has open houses for admitted students into April. That kind of tells me there may be a few more offered.
I also think I saw on twitter that those honors offers would also go out this weekend.

Good luck.

@Bailey101. I was accepted into Dean’s Scholars this week. I believe they are notifying accepted students individually, so don’t lose hope that your application is still under review. Good luck!

Thank you both for the encouraging words! Still holding out hope!

Also, I just read this under the FAQ section of the Dean’s Scholars page on the UT website.

When will I be notified if I’ve been accepted into an honors program?
Entering freshmen will be notified between December and late March.

Will I be notified if I am not accepted into an honors program?
Yes. All honors applicants will hear a decision, either way.

@nik826 oh good, that is very helpful , thank you!

No deans scholars offered for my daughter - her status changed sometime last night. Good luck to everyone!

My DD officially did not get into Deans or Turing. Posted last night. Good luck to everybody else.

Just curious how many students are accepted into Deans Scholars in a year? Anyone know?

@NotSoPatient

I am not sure exactly how many students are offered Dean’s but, they expect to have about 45 freshman accept. (They also save a few spaces for upperclassmen students- for a total of around 50 per year.)

If it is anything like Turing- they offered to about 80 students, also anticipating around 40-50 actually enrolling

@bookmom7 Wow, that is a very small number out of the thousands of students accepted! Those getting in should be very proud. Do you know how many they take in Health Science Scholars, Women in Science, etc.?

@ bookmom7 I guess WINS is not part of the Honors program, but it is by invitation so I was just wondering about how many freshman do they take the CNS in a year and how many end up in the honors programs and/or WINS?

It seems like each honors group in CNS- Dean’s, HSS & Polymathic all aim towards about 50 admitted each year.

Sorry I don’t have any info o the WINS (only have a son  )

we already attended Dean’s scholar meeting on Feb 15th. It was a holiday for my daughters school and took advantage. There will be a Plan 2 meet some time in Mar-Apr and all accepted students will be invited in Houston area. Waiting on that one now. Waiting on other out of Texas schools decisions. For now my daughter has Deans and Plan 2 in back pocket. Good luck to all. Some time in march you will see letters on scholarships. 2 years back my son got 48k merit from UT engg dept. So look out for that money

Has anyone who was accepted to Dean’s scholars (or other CNS honors programs) been offered a scholarship yet?

@beedigger Accepted DS in Dec, no scholarship offer yet. We did get one from PII this week. It seems the CNC info suggests that needs basis is more of a factor for DS scholarships. They are somewhat vague though…

So I am a recently accepted DS and am curious what my fellow DSers are like. Im a physics major, currently in a gap year, and am working at Los Alamos National Lab for an internship. Want to know more just ask! But fellow DSers, please tell us a bit about yourself.
