UT Austin Fall 2019 Transfer

Really weird that a 3.4 was accepted that early for RTF

@samfilm that’s my thinking as well, I applied to RTF with a gpa like this and it kind of gives me hope.

i think that person had a lot of experience and good LORs in the film industry

@Gtownboogie yeah me too. I have a 3.7 so im hoping i get in seeing a 3.4 get in. Last year I got denied with a 3.6 and saw a 3.4 get in moody so you never know

@samfilm 3.6 is pretty good. How many LORs did you have? Any work experience or internships? They look at everything. I’m a returning student, so in my case, I don’t have all the extracurricular activities like some students may have because of my full-time job. Any idea of the reason they rejected you last year? And yes. That 3.4 GPA getting in would give majority of people applying some hope. I called admissions a few days ago and someone from that department told me the average GPA to transfer into Moody would range from 3.5-3.7. Noting this student had a 3.4, I’m sure they probably had excellent extracurricular and solid LORs. Good luck to all!

@Irsh007 yeah i didnt have a job during school and wasn’t in any big clubs so I got rejected for that but this year i have work experience, better letters, and like 3 or 4 ec’s.

I have a feeling a lot of admissions decisions are gonna come out tonight ahhhhh

@walk-456 jinxed it for all of us. Way to go.

No wave whatsoever

lol i literally keep refreshing the page waiting to see a decision. any decision. just something!

I keep seeing everyone talk about LORs on here but I just want to point out, 90% of the time, it does nothing for your application! This youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoSLXgTumiA / time stamp 6:11) was created by a UT Admissions counselor, and he says all the time that unless the recommendations have a certain significance and come from someone that is valuable to you and your major, then they don’t make a difference:)

yeah, people have told me that LORs don’t matter unless they have a huge significance to your major. When I applied as a freshman I had a high school teacher who was well known in the film industry write me a LOR (i ended up getting CAP, probably bc of my SAT scores and ranking). Now that I am applying again as a transfer, I had a college professor write me a LOR, he was my public speaking professor. I was going to ask my high school teacher to write me another one but sadly he passed away. I wonder if when they look at applications, they know if you have tried applying to the school before.

Hey guys I’ve been lurking on here for a while. Wanted to update here as I saw some people discussing Moody. I was denied on Thursday from Moody Advertising with a 3.7 GPA. I had 3 LOR, 2 internships with major publications in Dallas, and over 120 hours in community service and ECs. Had 73 credit hours that were needed in order to complete my Associates of Journalism.

I called the admissions office and spoke to a counselor who informed me that UT tends to not want students who are over 70+ credit hours. I will be appealing and see if that helps any!

Are there any summer applicants still in review? I keep reading on different blog sites that UT is behind on releasing the application results. Is this true?

@SunflowersandT that sucks that you were denied! :frowning: hopefully, your appeal is successful cause your stats are impressive

and it doesn’t surprise me that UT is behind on decisions. they usually take their time on transfer apps. like others have said, we probably won’t find out until the deadline and/or a few days after.

@melibaby1096 yeah, they definitely know if you’ve applied before. idk about UT cause i dont remember but usually they ask you if you’ve applied before to the university. if anything that’s a good thing because if they see you are attempting to get into the school again its a sign u really like it!

@SunflowersandT yeah unfortunately schools usually look for transfer students who are still knew to the game and who don’t have a lot of credits already. i think it’s just because then that means the student with less credits will be at the university longer. idk.

Hey I found out Thursday that I was accepted into the college of natural sciences as a biology major. I am a Texas resident and have a 4.0 with 35 hours completed. Good essays and 2 LOR. I am also involved in several EC and have tons of volunteer hours. This is my first time applying to UT and I was out of state freshman year.

@utbiotransfer22 congrats! weird how some people are finding out on other days beside friday. like how does their system work lol?

Good thing is we have less than a week before everyone finds out… hopefully
