Hello, I am bringing my daughter to Austin in June for her first college tour. She is interested in studying architecture and figured this was the place to start (and go to ATX Festival)! Any insight on the program. We are from NJ…wondering if being out of state will help or hurt chances of admission? Thanks!!
I don’t know anything about Architecture, I will comment only on the time of your visit.
I checked ATX festival, it’s June 9-12
UT holds Summer orientations for freshmen in June and July.

June 6-8 is the first session, the campus is going to be crowded with students, parents and UT staff. NOBODY will have time for you, not even 5 minutes. And June 9 is your festival.
Unless you are coming for Summer Academy in Architecture https://soa.utexas.edu/apply/summer-academy-architecture I would suggest time after summer orientations or even during school year.
@tpcrd66 our d is a junior but in state and also interested in UT and I think the majority of spots are taken up with automatic admissions based on top 8%ranks. If you are going to visit the campus then you will likely only see buildings but it is an impressive campus! It’s very competitive for out of state but I would say just apply, if her stats are good and see what happens!
Thank you so much for this info Ya Ya! We plan on trying to take a tour of Friday, June 10…if no formal tours that day I guess we’ll have to take a self guided tour.
You are welcome.
You can call Architecture school and ask if any summer orientation mentor would be available to talk to you, They are current students and live on campus during orientation.
Or you can go to facebook https://admissions.utexas.edu/texas-20 (Texas 20 social) and ask there. A lot of mentors would be in that facebook group answering questions.
I know it’s very hard to get into the architecture school, so your daughter would need top-notch stats, especially coming from out of state.
