UT Austin Honors 2023

I didn’t see a UT Honors thread, so I wanted to start one for the 2023 class!
Please comment which program(s) you applied for along with your stats!
Also, does anyone know when the first wave of decisions will get released?

big mood when do they tell honors students; is it true they tell us before regular students?

I know that last year Plan 2 and BHP both released a wave before Christmas, but those were pretty small numbers. Plan 2 has actually already released a wave this year, so they might be finished until January. Hope not!! Most honors results come out about like acceptances. I believe engineering honors is actually late.

Last year my son was notified of his major (Biochemistry) mid-December and his letter of acceptance to the Health Science Scholars program in CNS Honors was dated mid-January.

My son has been accepted at CNS honors. He is still planning to apply to other universities so he’s not ready to register. In order to secure a place in line for honors housing, should he accept and register, and then decline if he gets into a better school?

Firstly - congratulations to your son! Secondly, put your $50 housing deposit down now. You do NOT need to accept and register to put down this sum. The $50 housing deposit can be submitted at any time from the date you apply, so many pay when they submit their college application. You do not need to be accepted at UT to pay the $50 deposit. Your place in line to choose campus housing is then determined by the date this $50 deposit was received. You asked specifically about honors housing, this is slightly different, or at least it was last year. For all other dorms the students receive time slots over a number of days according to when the $50 was received. Honors housing is just one time slot for the quad and you will be notified with this date/time in advance (it wasn’t a lot of notice).

hey there, any LAH acceptances, if so any OOS acceptances?

Waiting here as well! My out of state son was accepted to CNS last week, but still waiting on Honors. Does anyone have any information from prior years when decisions are typically released? Also, does anyone know if honors students are guaranteed housing in the honors dorms (and is that for all 4 years?). Thanks!

@dogwood18 I can’t help you with the Honors release dates but Honors housing is ( almost ) guaranteed for 4 years. First, your son should have already submitted his housing application and $50 fee. Housing is based on that date, not acceptance dates. If he’s done that already, then he should have a very, very good chance of getting in at the Honors Quad housing. Then, each January he will need to resubmit his application for housing/Honors housing. If he does that then he should be able to re-up in the Quad. My LHS accidentally on purpose failed to do that last January and is now in a West Campus apartment. We had hoped he’d stay at Carothers for at least 3 years but…Most students want out of the dorms after their freshman year. West Campus is more fun and usually far more roomy than a dorm.

@TXDad56 thank you - yes, we put in the deposit “just in case” - so glad we did! My fingers are crossed on the honors program - especially as an OOS student from a very small HS, it felt like this (the program and housing) could really help make connections easier, and a big school feel smaller, if he ends up attending.

My wife and I loved that he was in the Honors Quad, especially his freshman year. His roommate wasn’t that great but he made friends and it was just a more mature environment for those who wanted to focus a little bit more on their academics. Congrats and good luck.

Could I still apply for honors as a freshman if I didn’t last fall? I got accepted at CNS oos.
