Is it worth to spend extra for undergrad?
?? trying to understand your question relating to the title/topic. Are you thinking if it is worth going to Macomb or Wharton as an undergraduate and then go to Macomb or Wharton for an MBA or vice versa? Wharton is more expensive to attend at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
Is it worth paying extra money for Wharton if you are also accepted at Macomb? I mean would it be a more enriching experience, you’ll get better internships, more prestige or whatever it is that make people pay for Waharton and one won’t get at Macombs?
At the undergraduate level, Wharton is a little more prestigious than UT McCombs. If you do well and are at the top of your class at McCombs, you’ll get a great job like what you would get if you went to Wharton. The cost of going to Wharton might not be worth it at the undergraduate level. I am assuming you are paying in state tuition in Texas. If you are paying out of state tuition, the cost of Wharton is still probably a little more than McCombs. If that different is marginal, I would pick Wharton.
At the graduate MBA level, Wharton is much more prestigious than McCombs. Wharton is a top 5 MBA school and McCombs is a top 20 to 30. Wharton MBA grads get the top MBA jobs/salaries and in the long run, the Wharton MBA outshines the McCombs MBA. The Wharton cost is worth it.
If you want to work on Wall Street, Wharton will provide an easier path.
If you are in state and plan to live in Texas long term, by all means go to McCombs.
If you don’t plan on living in Texas or want some flexibility, having an undergrad Wharton degree may obviate an MBA degree so yes, the extra $$ spent there is worth it.
@cbreeze you raise a very good point. I have a number of friends who got a BA from Wharton, went to Wall Street or London and had no need to go back for an MBA.
Wharton is way more prestigious at the undergrad level. You’ll have way more opportunities, but it’s also much more competitive.
Go to Wharton. Way more prestigious. UT Austin is an excellent school, but Wharton can’t be beat.
