UT Austin vs UC Berkeley (Business Undergrad)

I live in Texas and am finishing high school there.

I was accepted into UT Austin McCombs for in-state tuition, but not into the honors program which I had wanted to attend. On the other hand, I was also admitted into UC Berkeley, although for out of state tuition.

Between $25k (UT Austin) and $62k (UC Berkeley) cost of attendances, is UC Berkeley’s business program better than UT Austin by a significant enough amount to be worth the cost?

Criteria: Education, Learning Environment, Networking, Job Recruitment, Salary

If you’re doing accounting I’d recommend UT. For anything else business wise, I’d recommend UC Berkeley.

Well, getting in to Haas is competitive.

So you run the risk of paying a lot more and not even getting in to the b-school.

I would choose McComb.

Texas is the better option for you as a direct admit to the business school.

Berkeley is $37,000 more per year. That equals at least $148,000 extra cost over 4 years. Not worth it. You can get an MBA degree for $148,000.

I’m in a similar position, leaning towards UCB

The debt from Berkeley would sink you financially. You’re far better off at UT.
