My son received CAP offer tonight but not sure what that really means or if he should consider. Anyone else?
I got CAPed to McCombs as well. Waiting for financial aid info before deciding.
I just have to say, I hate this 6% rule. I know I’m more qualified than a rural student with a 1200 SAT, yet they still get accepted? Wild.
Is there a way to repeal CAP?
gosh, I wish! I don’t think so.
Son also with CAP offer. FYI and sharing in case some others with good qualifications also are in the same boat. You are not alone.
Small affordable Texas private school. Thankfully, non-ranking because 6 of 25 in his class are National Merit Recognized. He was not National Merit but has a 34 ACT. 4.1 out of possible 4.3 max weighted GPA. Lots of EC’s, athletics, leadership, etc. Not many AP offered but he did take most of them. Even regular courses are rigorous meaning very few (1-2 per class graduate with all A’s). We felt this school would prepare him well for college. He likely would have been in the top 2 of his class of 120 at his previous public school but its graduates did not seem to be generally prepared for a challenging college curriculum. God has bigger plans. Congrats to non-autos that gained admittance.
My daughter and all of her non-auto admit friends were CAPped tonight. All in the IB program, all top 10% with strong scores. In-state / Dallas area high school.
Oh well… onward and upward. UT isn’t the only school.
Yep, D was CAPed last night also. Was not expecting to get in, but it could have happened. She has been accepted to other good schools, so it is what it is. Good luck to everybody else who is still waiting.
what is CAP/CAPped? and is it good or bad? OOS here.
@parentofsix It is a program for incoming freshman to start their college careers at another UT school other than Austin (ie Arlington, San Antonio, Tyler etc) If after your 1st year you meet certain requirements, ie 30 Hours, 3.2GPA, upper level math, then you are guaranteed admission into majors in the College of Liberal Arts (COLA) and maybe Moody. It’s an alternative, invitation only, for those who are not accepted directly into UT Austin.
Hi, I understood that UT Austin applies class rankings for homeschool students based on SAT scores to determine auto admit. Does anyone know about this?
If we are a review admit and we haven’t heard back, should we expect denial on 2/1?
We’re in the same boat @NoraDrake
I was assume deferral or denial. I guess we’ll know in a few days!!
Got CAP’ed this last Friday. 1230 SAT and 4.2 weighted GPA. Biochem.
I was rejected OOS for RD on February 2 for CS
-ACT: 35 Composite (English: 36, Math: 35, Reading: 34, Science: 34)
-GPA: 3.88 uw, 4.2 w (my school does not offer weighted and APs in freshman and sophomore year, so getting As brings me down)
-School does not rank
-AP classes taken: Physics 1 (3), AP Comp. Sci. (4), AP Chem. (4)
-Senior year AP’s: AP Gov, AP Bio, AP Stats, AP Music Theory
-No hooks
-South Asian
-Essays: I think they were pretty good.
-ECs: 4 years tennis (3 yrs. JV and 1 varsity), finished CM Level 10 Piano, played tournaments for tennis through USTA (level 5 quarter-finalist), indian classical dance, school band (top), lacrosse (9-10), etc.
-Honors: AP Scholar, commended scholar, MVP in tennis, tennis captain, lacrosse captain, winner at a summer program, etc.
I also did summer program for CS and I volunteered at the Microsoft store, as well as a girls coding program, to help teach girls how to code. I am the EC for my culture club and Sec. for my Girls Who Code club.
Got residency corrected with the right department and now awaiting rejection appeal based on OOS vs in state. Anyone have experience? The residency folks updated the application almost immediately; it now shows correctly. The page says “simpler appeals such as missing information can be as fast as 2 weeks” – ugh. LOL
My son was uncapped tonight & got into McCombs. Very excited & surprised!
Congrats @UT2324, I’ve attended several McCombs admitted student programs with my son this cycle and it is as good as advertised. I hope the notification of that your son got in was timely enough for you guys to still have UT under consideration.
So good question. @UT2324 , will you BB go to UT ???
@TXDad56 @fatherof2boys I am sure he will go to McCombs. He is a 3rd generation Longhorn on both sides & Texas was always the goal. The last 2 months were so stressful.
