@tchit87 : Because you expressed concern about large, impersonal classes, you should be aware that the University of Florida has added online classes in order to accomodate more students (Florida website states that online options allowed UF to admit 2200 additional students).
Although students can still attend the class in person, the online option should add flexibility to one’s schedule.
Are you considering any private universities ? Any other colleges or universities ?
@MYOS1634@Publisher
Actually most of the colleges on my list are private universities including UPenn, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, WashU, Emory, Notre Dame, UChicago, Northwestern, Northeastern, etc. I have more than 20 colleges on my list at the moment. My family is upper middle class so we will get little to no aid, so I am only considering merit aid. My sister is planning on attending dental school, so that cost will be around $400k atleast with undergrad+grad. However, many of the great business schools (atleast by US News) are public, which is why I have PennState, Indiana, UF, UT Austin, GeorgiaTech, and UMich on my list… now I think I may add UNC because it is similar to UT Austin and closer to where I live, and probably more selective also. I just need to think about what’s a smart choice, because it will be either my sister or me going into debt or my parents losing all their savings unless I take merit aid at other schools, which is why I have so many selective public schools on my list.
As for the online classes, I would really only take those at UF cause its free lol. My sister is at a school that gave her a lot of aid and taking 2 online and 3 in-person… she has one class a day… its literally like a vacation she wakes up at 10 and goes out to lunch with her friends lol. I know because I took a course at Drexel and UPenn this year… and for 5 weeks I had a collective 12 hours of class each week, which is how much my sister has now… and I still felt like I was on summer vacation lol. I am sad to go back to high school because its just a continual grind lol. I guess if I tried to work or do research online classes would help alot.
Northeastern and Emory have merit (if you apply by priority/early deadlines) but the other privates mostly don’t. Before you start the very lengthy process, run the NPC with your parents and make sure they can afford them without merit.
The deal could be that both you and your sister get a certain, similar, amount. She can use it for dental school, or for college, and you get the same amount, which you can use for college or for a MBA. It shouldn’t be all for you or all for her.
I’d cut GTech and UT from your list. They’re great schools, but for your major you have either better or cheaper choices.
