UT Austin or UF (University of Florida)?

Hey guys, I just received my acceptance letters from UT Austin and UF. Still waiting on the UC’s, NYU, and Georgia Tech.
If I had to choose between these two(UT Austin and UF) which one should I choose?

I’m in-state for UT Austin and out of state for UF

I really want to go to a big university and UF is bigger than UT Austin. Also I heard from kids that went to both schools that they preferred UF, and they liked it so much better than UT Austin. UF also has MUCH happier students and MUCH better student life. Another important thing is that UF is out of state, and I really want to go out of state, so that brings down UT Austin in my view significantly. The only reason I’m even considering UT Austin is because I heard the academics are better, not sure if that’s true??

But if you guys could share your opinions on the matter, that would be great!!! Thanks

Never go based solely off of other people’s opinions. You need to visit both schools and see which you like better. Also both schools are very strong, so unless your major is significantly stronger at one school, I would say you should pick based off preference.

What major are you considering?

Either Business or CS

Most likely Business

UF business classes the first two years are mostly online…were you accepted into the business school at UT
and UF

Yeah

What are the best and most popular majors at UF?

Well, both schools are very similar - large, academics, attractive girls, greek life. The biggest differences are the online classes at UF and Gainesville vs Austin for local internships

which one is better for the internships?

Austin is a great city with a ton of live entertainment and a lot going on. Gainesville is a town that basically exists because of UF. There’s nothing else there and nothing else that close by. But Gators love their school! Both have great D1 sports with a huge fan base. Although UF is considered a good business school, UT is one of the leaders in the nation (up there with UMichigan, UC, etc.It gets a lot of attention for finance and banking jobs in the gas / oil sector which is big money.

They’re both huge, good state flagship schools. The online classes would bug me (it’s an indicator of lack of resources- literally buildings, professors, etc.) I can’t see spending the difference in tuition for a very similar experience. If it was for something quite different or more valuable, than sure. Essentially it’s the same thing (with the exception that UT is generally considered a better school and has been for a long time)

Florida publics also have the summer session requirement that can be an extra cost in addition to the extra cost of being out of state.

Anyone else?

If you get into McCombs I’d go there - pretty much no contest.

Did UF send a letter in the mail? Completed my app before early action deadline but was under the impression decisions don’t come out until February. Visited both schools and will tell you I enjoyed UT more.

Getting into UT and actually getting the major you want are two different things at UT. Both the business school and the CS are cut throat competitive. Even with strong grades, you probably have a 1-3 chance of getting in. The rest transfer to Texas State University 30 minutes away, and usually do well. Florida isn’t as bad because they’re more high tech than Texas and can accommodate more students online.
