UT Austin: Spring Transfer 2019 Thread

Accepted
BA psych major
3.67 GPA
45 Hours
UTSA—> ACC transfer
Second time applying to UT

I have a question for yall who might know… does fafsa student loans cover tuition and dorm, or do I need to take private loans to cover everything?

@IAJ2019 FAFSA does not give student loans. It determines your EFC (Expected Family Contribution). The university uses this number to estimate need based aid through grant eligibility and government loan eligibility. For government loans (Stafford) Freshman qualify for $5500/year, sophomores $6500, Juniors/seniors $7500. Any need to cover costs beyond that will need to be covered by you either through family contributions, personal savings or private loans.

Hoping to hear an answer today

I got into Economics! I found out yesterday, but I actually got the email last Wednesday… I got denied fall 2018 for McCombs and second major Econ, but I didn’t give up!! I applied both fall 2018 and spring 2019 with the same exact stats so I’m unsure what happened.

Stats:
3.7 GPA 54 credits at ACC
2 strong essays
2 LOR: 1 strong, 1 good
full-time job
200 hours community service

I was also accepted to McCombs out of high school, but it was OOS tuition, not sure if that matters

ACCEPTED TO ENGLISH!!!
OUT OF STATE
3.75 GPA
4 LOR - one from my college president
2 heartfelt essays
Average amount of volunteer/EC
29 Transferrable credits

I just got accepted to my first choice of BA in psychology! However, I was rejected to Fall 2018 with these same stats.
In state resident
3.59 GPA
1 LOR
2 decent essays
32 transferrable credits

Congratulations to everyone else that got accepted and best of luck!

Accepted to COLA African and African Diaspora Studies with a 3.53. I was denied for Sociology with a 3.66 for the Fall of 2018. Truly ecstatic!

Congrats to everyone getting in! I’m still in review and this is agonizingggg

Just got accepted! COLA Gov major. Had Audit access, 3.48 GPA, 3 LOR, good resume, 2 good essays!

My daughter was accepted into her 2nd choice major which is English. Her 1st choice was BS in Psych.
Stats:
Full audit access with a completed percentage.
3.57 GPA
25 transfer hours
3 LOR
2 Decent essays
Tons of extra curriculars and community service hours.
She graduated in May 2018 which was a year early. She should be graduating high school in May of 2019. Not sure if this had any impact on the decision.
Now she just has to decide, because she was accepted into Psych at A&M.
Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!

Just got ACCEPTED Into Anthropology major!! So so happyyy!! This was my 2nd time applying!! 3.5 GPA, 39 hours!!! Good luck everyone!!

UPDATE:

I was previously denied last Friday. 3.86, excellent resume, LOR, essays, worked as ff/medic for 10 years, etc. Major: Health and Society (I’m pre-med). Not gonna lie, I was a bit surprised I got rejected so early in the process. I felt like my chances were iffy, maybe 50/50 if I was lucky. But, to be rejected so early in the process was a surprise.

As it turns out, there was an issue with my Academic fresh start paperwork. I had a 3.0 GPA with a single bad semester over 10 years ago. Without that semester my GPA jumps up tremendously. 3.0 must be a lower limit cutoff in their system.

I am back in the process and my IDE is now showing up. Before, it hadn’t updated. There’s gotta be something to that.

I’m still crossing my fingers. We’ll see! As for appeals go, they are basically useless if you don’t have some sort of major error with your application or some sort of new information.

I’ll let you all know what happens…

@TXfiretoMed thanks for reporting your process and results, it’s really helpful!

Has anyone been offered housing contracts yet? I submitted my application as soon as i was admitted but i haven’t heard back :. On that note, who all is transferring next semester? I’d love to get to know some people before arriving on campus. My name’s Kyle and i’m a government major. I’m transferring from SFASU and i’ve lived in really tiny towns all of my life (I graduated with a class of 29 soooo) so i’m really intimidated by moving to the 11th largest city in the US.

@kwwhit73: Have you heard anything on your housing contract yet? We have not.

Hey if anyone needs housing for this Spring semester I have a friend who is trying to get rid of their place. It’s 450 a month (plus utilities) and it’s about a 10 min walk from campus (West Campus). Message me if interested!

To update my post above:

I was ACCEPTED!!!

Checked it last night and it was still in review. This morning it flipped

@TXfiretoMed how many days did it take for them to reply back?
