Hi, I was wondering if some people could give me their opinion on my chances of getting into UT-Austin. I am currently a Junior btw.
GPA: 3.6-3.7
SAT: 2060 (retaking for superscore)
ACT: taking in April, practice tests are 34+
Classes (by graduation): 5 AP, all Honors except for language for 2 years, multiple business related electives.
ECs: Boy Scout, lots of Volunteering, Key Club, DECA (qualified to internationals), leadership and business camps over summer, in school Orchestra since 3rd grade, will hopefully get a job by the summer.
I want to get into the business school and major in Finance or Marketing (or both).
Thank you in advance!
The most important thing UT looks at is class rank. Top 7% isn’t good enough even more as more students are put into CAP or PACE.
In state or out of state. Because so many spots are taken by the top 7% rule, getting into UT should be considered very competitive for out of state students.
Yup you have to be VERY exceptional to be accepted as OOS
I was accepted OOS as a chemical engineering major this year! Although business majors are more competitive at UT, I think engineering is still a good point of comparison.
I agree with those who posted above that rank is extremely important. They don’t consider GPA unless a rank isn’t given (I can testify to this! I transferred schools halfway through freshman year and only sent the transcript from my current school, and they never asked for my old school’s transcript).
Your EC’s are great; it’s very clear that you’re passionate about business. I’m glad you’re choosing a major that appeals to your interests. Keep up the good work with that My advice to you is to focus on the ACT, as it seems like it’s your strong point. My greatest regret in the college process is focusing on the SAT when I was clearly better-suited for the ACT. Try to get a 34+. Also, if your financial situation allows it, try taking the SAT again regardless of if you have studied or not. Your results may surprise you! I personally got a 2090 the first time and a 2160 the second time around without prepping in between. UT doesn’t superscore, so keep that in mind.
Good luck!
