UT Austin

Hello Everyone,
I’m a NJ High School Junior that has interest in UT Austin. Hoping to become a doctor, (pre-med/bio/chem as possible majors), I was wondering if this school could be a good fit. Knowing it is very difficult to get in as out if state, but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. I’m 31st in my class of 233 with a 4.1 GPA. I’ve taken 8 Honors and 3 APs in my 3 years so far, and hope to take more next year. I have dedicated ECs, I’ve volunteered at my local hospital for 50+ hours (will have at least 200 by application) and just started coaching youth basketball. In school I take part in key club and played boy’s soccer for 2 years. I had interest in this school as it has D1 sports that I can support, is ranked top 50 academically, and has a lot of students. I’ve always wanted to go to a large school with thousands of people so I can meet as many new people as possible from as many places as possible. If I should have any other colleges on my radar, please let me know, and chance me if you.
Thanks!

ut Austin is a great school but super competitive. it looks like you’re in the top 13% of your class, which is great. it’s 5% away from being automatic admission, so they should definitely take that into consideration. gpa is solid. my only question is what are you act and sat scores? if you want to lock your chances of getting in then you may need at least a 31 on the act and a 1400 sat. pretty high scores, but hey, you’ll probably get in if you get those. that’s just my estimation, though. if you get one or both of those scores, then you should definitely be okay. also, apply the first day you can. that’s a huge thing to do for your college applications.

UT reserves 90% of their acceptances for Texas residents, which makes the last 10% pretty tough. I would say extremely slim. UT only does auto-admission for Texas residents. If you have ambitions of medical school, you would do yourself a big favor by going to a school where you can keep the debt low. Medical school is very expensive.

I agree with you that the chances originally are very low, although I recently read that 75% was reserved for in state. This is just my first look at schools so I an just looking at anything that catches my interest, and a few of the schools that did so were UMich, UT Austin, U if Miami (FL), and Rutgers. Disregarding the cost, I wanted to be able to see the chances I have so I could find similar schools to the ones I could attend. Thanks for the advice!
