I'm worried about whether I can get into Chemical Engineering at UT. Someone there told me that in his class, he had several valedictorians and perfect SATs. What were your stats when you applied to Chemical Engineering, especially with Class Rank and SAT.

Haha, unfortunately, I was valedictorian and had a perfect SAT, but I’m sure there is a wide range of students. I personally know a few ChemEs at UT who aren’t exactly the brightest students, so don’t worry about it.

If I have a 1460 (M+CR) and am ranked about 1.2% in my class, am I in? What about Honors?

your definitely in with honors…

I heard Honors requires 1500 CR+M as a minimum. Is this true?

Probably not, I got in honors engineering for EE with a 1490. Sure it was 10 points away, but it was still below 1500 >_>.

I was told Chemical Engineering Honors and regular Chemical Engineering have the exact same classes. This is different than the other Engineering Honors. If this is the case, what is the difference then if an Honors student decides not the write the [optional thesis?](http://studentorgs.engr.utexas.edu/ehc/thesis_guide.html)

That website is completely outdated…

So thesis is required for all Honors students? Also, what were your stats if you were chemical engineering?

I was ranked 3 out of 400, SAT was perfect , but I had alot of unique and dedicated extracurricular activities. I think a thesis is required for all students in your junior year

1490, top 1% of class. didnt get into honors, but i got into honors after my first year due to GPA. (I think anyone with a 3.5 after their first year is automatically invited)

I’ve been in honors for a year now and I have yet to do anything associated with it. The thesis isnt required.

bob - it has been posted on here that in the fall of 2009, it took a 1500 for honors. However, for fall 2010 others have posted that it was lower. I am sure it changes every year. They told us at parents weekend last fall that ChE usually requires about top 5% rank (for regular, not honors). Your class rank is great - SAT will depend on the other applicants as to whether it is high enough for honors. My DS is starting his second year in honors, and it has not been different at all. I am not sure what the big hubub is about, maybe it will change as he progresses. If you don’t get into honors, you will be invited after your first year with a really good GPA. Good luck!

Well I transfered into UT out of high-school bc I did a lot of dual credit courses…and I had a 4.0 cummalative high school and college GPA. But my SAT was only a 1300 and I just had a few ECs :]. If you don’t get in out of high school, go to a community college for a year and transfer!
