Hi! So right now I’m in a tricky situation. I graduated high school (GPA:4.1) in the top 7.5% this 2017 and also graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Arts of General Studies (GPA: 3.1; 60 credits) at a community college (the same time as my hs diploma). I held multiple extracurricular activity leadership positions and was very involved in my school.
I was put in the CAP program, but declined and decided to go as a regular student at UTSA. I ended up deciding to take a gap year (sorta) at the last second because UTSA was not a good fit for me.
Now, I am trying to transfer into the Journalism school for Fall 2018. I am taking one college class at the community college I graduated from, giving me automatic admission using the Transfer Automatic Admission Rule. However, this only assures me a spot at UT and not my major. I will be interning with an advertising company as a social media intern, working as a research assistant at a hospital in the Houston Medical Center, and working a part-time sales job. I am also applying to the Disney College Program for the Spring 2018 (but if I don’t get in, will continue with where I am working at right now).
I know my college GPA is low, but am hoping this experience will help better my chances. At this point, do you think I have a chance at getting into the school with only a 3.1? Is there any other advice you can give me to better my chances?
I thought I’ve been doing everything right, but it all came crashing down this year with this dilemma. UT is one of my dream colleges and I’m doing everything I possibly can to get in. I’m just putting this out there just in case someone has more information I don’t know about or has any tips because I felt very uneducated about the process as a high school senior.
