I have been admitted UT Dallas as an international and received an AES Distinction Scholarship. I have read my e-mail for times and visit the website over and over but still I am confused about the value. Do you know any other out-of-state or international AES Distinction receivers? Do they have to pay the in-state fees or they only pay the housing fees (like the in-state recipients)? Thank you.
You’ll need to email the FA office and ask.
If you receive any of the AES scholarships, you will be treated as an in-state student for tuition and fees. Depending on what level of scholarship you received, it may or may not cover it but you will receive an OOS tuition waiver. You may or may not be able to receive the additional living stipend attached to the Distinguished and Honor level of scholarship - it depends on your type of visa. Also, you will probably have to pay for health insurance which runs about $200/mo.
@GTAustin Thank you, but what I am confused here is whether or not the in-state tuition is waived. I have received the Distinction scholarship, so what I have here is just ‘the reduction of fees to in-state rates’ or ‘the complete tuition fee waiver’?
The Distinction level would pay your tuition and fees fully. Whether you could receive the additional $1000/semester depends on the type of visa you hold. Per UTD’s website “Students receiving any level of AES award qualify for in-state tuition and fee charges, regardless of their resident status. Per IRS Revenue Code 117, visa holders not eligible for work authorization may not receive the cash stipend, as it is considered taxable income.”
@GTAustin Massive thanks. I am clear now.
