UTD only auto admits the state required Top 10% from Texas High Schools. There is no assured admission based on test scores anymore. Everything beyond the Top 10 percent is holistic.
But 8 weeks seems like a long time. I would have your student reach out to their area admissions counselor and see if there is anything missing in the file.
My DD was a review admit in 2019 and heard back within 3 weeks. She was admitted in August.
My son is homeschooled as well. Applied 8/21 and all documents received by early September. SAT 1370 and 4 semesters of dual credit at community college. We have only heard back from one school so far (Texas State) but not his top 2 (Texas A&M and UTD). I think Iām more worried about it than he is. Hoping to hear something soon!
@BlueBayouAZ , at your suggestion, we emailed the Area contact person and she responded within an hour! Even though he applied on August 16th, his final transcript wasnāt added until August 27th (had to send it snail mail from the local community college). The 4-6 week window thus began on August 27th which makes it 5 weeks today. She said he should get an admission decision by mid October.
@creekster519 , it makes me wonder if the homeschoolers are at the bottom of the pile! lol MAYBE, they just donāt have as much staff processing applications as Texas Tech/State/A&M and that is why it is taking longer than usual this year?
@DNapier. His acceptance letter said that AES will come out in Dec. This is different than prior years. My S19 got his AES with his acceptance letter in the mail at the same time.
@Dapier. Here is a copy of the letter if anyone is interested.

I wish my son had used the common app. ApplyTexas is missing some benefits of the common app. Recommendation letters have to be sent independently. Weāve had to reach out to the high school counselor multiple times for letters. I feel awful we didnāt ask her all at one time.
@NeighborTX , I am not sure how much UTD looks at recommendation letters. My S19 (ApplyTx, instate) and S21 (Common app, OOS) did not have any recommendations. Both received their decision within a week of submitting. S19 received AES honors and weāre waiting on award for S21. Good luck to you!
My sonās first SAT score was 1370 in 2019. He was unable to take it again due to COVID. He is signed up for November 7th. If he gets a better score, will he have time to submit and will they consider it for scholarships? He has already applied to College of Engineering but hasnāt received admittance yet.
No, he didnāt apply test optional because I didnāt think his score was that bad. But it would help for scholarships if he had a higher score. Should he be worried about getting admitted with 1370 SAT?
I think he will be fine on admission. It is a very solid score. Itās right in the middle of UTD incoming freshman scores.
But I caution on expecting an AES scholarship. UTD has a reputation for giving out generous scholarships, but that is not fully understood. Lots of people in Texas believe UTD is paying huge amounts of students to go to school there. That is simply not true. They reward very, very high academic achievers. Meaning NMF and those close to it.
To put in in perspective the middle 50% of the test scores of incoming freshmen was 1250-1450 and 26-33. I like to look at is as 1450 and 33 was a 75% on the test. They have 25% of the student population that scored above 1450 and 33. Would you expect a scholarship when you made a 75 or a āC?ā
I would have to go back and look at past threads - but I do not recall an AES being offered to students who were not above the top 15% in their graduating class last year.
Who knows what is going to happen with COVID and test optional. I think we are still a month away from knowing how this fallās enrollment ended up.
I really donāt know. I saw he signed up for the Nov test and therefore assumed that he might not be happy with his score. Jinsun2000 and BlueBayouAZ are apparently more knowledgeable.
@BlueBayouAZ Thank for the insight. Very helpful. I have another question. My understanding is that UTD does superscore SAT, but not ACT. So when you say "the middle 50% of the test scores of incoming freshmen was 1250-1450 and 26-33. " , is this SAT range the result of superscored SAT or not?
