Thanks jinsun2000. You are correct. UTD doesn’t require recommendation. Other Texas schools my son applied through ApplyTexas did require counselor evaluation or recommendations. You have to ask the teachers and counselors to send separately for each school. Thankfully, UTD didn’t require it. We did go ahead and submit a teacher’s recommendation however. I’m not sure it’s going to help.
Here is a really good article I found which has some statistics on AES awards for Fall 2020. https://utdmercury.com/changes-to-aes-awards-met-with-unhappiness/
Hope this help!
What Texas school “required” a recommendation? Are you talking private? Between my daughters, they have applied to UT, UTD, TAMU, TTU, SFA, UNT, SHSU, HBU and Texas State. None of those required a recommendation. Some of those schools do require for Honor or scholarships, but not admission. It is “optional” at UT and TAMU.
BlueBayou, you are correct. I guess I never considered it was the private schools. SMU and Trinity both require Counselor Evaluations in their applications.
I know they use superscore for scholarship consideration. Not sure about general admission. If you know they superscore for admission then the numbers I provided are based on superscoring.
The stats I reported are from the federally required Common Data Set that all colleges must report. The instructions for that section of reporting state:
"If a student submitted multiple sets of scores for a single test, report this information according to how you use the data.
For example: If you consider the highest scores from either submission, use the highest combination of scores (e.g., verbal from one submission, math from the other).
If you average the scores, use the average to report the scores."
Since you don’t have numbers like 1272 - I think it is safe to say they don’t average the scores. So that leaves highest test score in one setting or superscore.
It is a tough call based on the data. With superscoring I would expect the 1250 to be higher than the ACT concordance score. A 1250=26 but so does a 1240 and 1230. The ACT and SAT scores are pretty much equal. But since a 750 (the high end of the math subscore) = a 33 and the reported ACT top 75% in math is 32 - I’m going to guess it is a superscore. But that is just an educated guess.
Interestingly 85% of students submitted SAT and only 42% did ACT.
My son got his acceptance this morning into Computer Science. Right at 6 weeks since the application was considered complete.
@ChillyCow . Congratulation to your son! Better late than never Would you post your son’s stats?
My son also got accepted yesterday with Data Science major.
1460 SAT, super score 1480
GPA 5.435
Bunch of APs and Dual Credits.
For those whose kids have been accepted, did UTD send out an email notification, or was there just a change in the portal?
@amsunshine , My son checked his portal and that is how he found out.
@jinsun2000

Are you an Auto-admit or Review Admit: Review
Major/College of Choice: Computer Science
He has zero computer science exposure so we were beginning to sweat it that he might get rejected for not showing a fit to a major (like UT likes to see). (He has taken a couple of engineering classes and is taking calculus/engineering physics this year) He has 9 hours community college and taking 21 hours community college for his senior year. Lots of extracurriculars and volunteering. No real leadership positions. We only submitted one SAT; he has a higher super score and also will find out on October 16th what he made on the last SAT. Not sure if we will update them or not with UT Dallas. Sounds like scholarships are getting more and more competitive every year.
@amsunshine. It was portal first, then email 7 days later, and we just received the official acceptance letter in the mail yesterday.
@ChillyCow @jinsun2000 Thank you! My D’s portal says “under final review”, so she is itching to find out.
My son was accepted today for Computer Science!! It took about 5 weeks but seemed like forever! Hopefully, he can increase his test scores a little and be more eligible for scholarships. He’s taking ACT Saturday and SAT again in Nov.
When did you apply: 8/21 (application complete 9/2)
Class Rank: Homeschool

Did anybody send the official AP scores to UTD as part of the application package?
No. Just HS transcripts.
Just saw Galaxy updated today with approval.
No email or physical mail so far.
My son received an email this morning about his acceptance. Yesterday, his portal showed the acceptance. Not a bad turn around time.
@DNapier We haven’t sent AP scores yet.
@“Kalraavya@gmail.com” Portal showed acceptance yesterday and received email this morning.
Hi @amsunshine - was the “Final Review” status after “Undergraduate Committee Review”? DS is checking every day (review admit) and has been in the above status for a while. Just so he knows what to expect.
@ChettaDabba She doesn’t recall seeing “UG Committee Review”. The status went from “under review” to “final review”. I think that was the wording – I didn’t see it, she just relayed it to me.
